Ex-attorney general turns into a lobbyist
March 17, 2006

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/03/16/news/ashcroft.php

WASHINGTON As U.S. attorney general, John Ashcroft came across as a model of moral rectitude, both to the conservatives who embraced his values and to detractors who saw him as a stiff- necked moralist.

So in the era of the Jack Abramoff scandal, it may seem an unusual career move that the 63-year-old Ashcroft has become a Washington lobbyist, a calling not normally held up as a paragon of virtue. But that disjunction has not stopped Ashcroft from setting up the Ashcroft Group and selling himself and his insider's knowledge of how Washington works.
