Democratic senators, filing in for their weekly caucus lunch yesterday, looked as if they'd seen a ghost.

"I haven't read it," demurred Barack Obama (Ill.).

"I just don't have enough information," protested Ben Nelson (Neb.). "I really can't right now," John Kerry (Mass.) said as he hurried past a knot of reporters -- an excuse that fell apart when Kerry was forced into an awkward wait as Capitol Police stopped an aide at the magnetometer.

Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) brushed past the press pack, shaking her head and waving her hand over her shoulder. When an errant food cart blocked her entrance to the meeting room, she tried to hide from reporters behind the 4-foot-11 Barbara Mikulski (Md.).

So nonplused were Democrats that even Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), known for his near-daily news conferences, made history by declaring, "I'm not going to comment." Would he have a comment later? "I dunno," the suddenly shy senator said.

Republicans were grateful for the gift. The office of Sen. John Cornyn (Tex.) put a new "daily feature" on its Web site monitoring the censure resolution: "Democrat co-sponsors of Feingold Resolution: 0.".....

1. F*CK these people! All of them!!

I group them all in the same class as Bush, Cheney, Rove, et cetera. They will not stand up for the Constitution, the American people, their party, or their fellow Senators.

They need to go find a new job - every last one of the MoFo's.

And we wonder why we have a Dictator in office, trampling our civil rights and liberties. Killing off everything our ancestors fought for, and gave their lives for.

2. Just how do the dems in the Senate

think that avoiding taking a stand on censure will help their image? All they did by not backing this is say to us that they really are cowards that will run and hide. These are the people who intend to protect us from terrorists? They won't even censure a President who has broken the law, they won't stand with one of their own how will they stand for what is right for the country? No matter what their plans are and whether they are better or not this is the image that they give voters and they will continue to be seen as weak. This is self inflicted damage, the repukes don't even have to try any more we do it to ourselves.

3. Are They Afraid of Validating Feingold? Their Competition?

Or are they just plain stupid?

The Democrats must stand together, or we will all hang separately.

4. I want to think they are playing poker

It is making news just to have the Repubs sweating....just as we are guessing, they are guessing BIG TIME.

The shoe is on their foot.

For the Democrats, let's hope they come up with a creative plan to keep on pushing.

8. I think it's the opposite: the GOP is out-pokering the Democrats.

The GOP knows they've got a losing hand, and that their chips are all on the table. All they've got left is a bluff, and frankly, their bluff is working: the GOP senators are all telling the Dem senators that supporting the censure is a third-rail, or something.

And because the DC Democratic party is a bunch of navel-gazers, they are falling for it. They're being smoked by a bluff.

5. lunch did not convince anyone.

....After an hour of closed-door negotiations, Democrats were no closer to resolving the Feingold rift.

"Most of us feel at best it's premature," announced Sen. Christopher Dodd (Conn.). "I don't think anyone can say with any certainty at this juncture that what happened is illegal."

Dodd must not have checked with Sen. Tom Harkin (Iowa). "The president broke the law and he needs to be held accountable," he said. "Talk about high crimes and misdemeanors!" Harkin said he'll vote for the Feingold resolution -- if it comes up.

That gives Feingold two solid votes, including his own. The rest: avowedly undecided.

Schumer, leaving the lunch, still hadn't found his voice. " He's gonna talk about it," Schumer said, pointing to Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (Nev.).

9. I signed and we need to keep the ball rolling

I am not going to waste time bad mouthing our own,Feingold was the front man.
He did not have to do this and we play right into the hands of the Repubs when WE say that he did the wrong thing or Demos did the wrong thing.
