Tripping Through My Wires

A Cleveland writer recalls his own encounter with an eavesdropping Bush

By Ted Schwarz

IT DIDN’T START WITH 9/11. Not the Bush family’s flouting of the Constitution. Not the wiretapping of possible critics. Not the concern that ordinary people might embarrass them as they pursued illegal activities in the name of national security. I know. I was one of their targets, and it happened before 9/11.

It happened as the younger George Bush was about to run for president and I was researching an experiment his father had approved 25 years earlier when he was director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

“The MKULTRA activity is concerned with the research and development of chemical, biological and radiological materials capable of employment in clandestine operations to control human behavior … The concepts involved in manipulating human behavior are found by many people both within and outside the Agency to be distasteful and unethical. …”
— July 26, 1963 memo explaining the MKULTRA Program to the Director of the CIA

“Under this project conducted from 1953 to 1964 and known as ‘MKULTRA,’ tests were conducted on American citizens in some cases without their knowledge.”
— 1977 memo from then CIA Director Stansfield Turner to Sen. Daniel Inouye, just before George H.W. Bush became CIA director...

2. If you read "Full Disclosure" by Dr. Gary Glum
you will find great detail about the CIA programs he discusses. Dr. Glum's book is hard to find but, well worth the read. It ties all of this together very neatly.

Dr. Glum has told me that his life has been threatened more than once.

It seems that the crimes never stop with this family!

4. The article is wrong. Bush, Sr. was CIA director years before 1977
