Daniel Schorr - drinking the koolaid?
Did anyone else catch Daniel Schorr commentary this am on NPR? I am so disappointed with him. He actually stated that no one is calling for *'s impeachment. How can he have missed the almost immediate response to this illegal activity by both sides of Congress? Arlen Spector responded - almost immediately - by a call for hearings when the Judiciary Committee returns in January.

Daniel - et tu Brute?

Here is my email to NPR and Daniel:

Daniel,

I stop everything Saturday mornings to hear your commentary on the past week's events. And today is the first time you have troubled both my husband and me by your assertion - your calm assertion - that "no one" is calling for Bush's impeachment. John Conyers, Barbara Boxer, John Lewis, John Kerry and others across the aisle, most noticeably Arlen Spector, have asked for hearings on the NSA scandal. How can these high-profile, elected officials not be on your radar screen? And most American's are agreed as per the polls that if the president has indeed broken the laws, has broken his vow to DEFEND the constitution as he has so arrogantly admitted publically that he needs to be impeached for these offenses to our 4th amendment rights.

We get the Republican talking points reported as 'facts' from most other news outlets - please don't you start spouting them too!

Sincerely and hoping to remain a fan...

1. They've asked for hearings and investigations
They've used the term 'impeachment' and 'impeachable offense' in non-official statements. But no one has yet officially proposed bringing articles of impeachment.

I didn't hear his segment this morning. But I can't imagine Daniel Schorr becoming a kool-aid drinker.

2. From what I remember of the broadcast, he
didn't even mention that.

4. Hate to tell you this, and hate to bash the old guy, but when he trashed
the Clinton Whitehouse over "vandalgate" with no evidence whatsoever, I stopped listening to both him and Scott Simon.

5. One can't help but assume that the Republicans in the House
would never vote for the impeachment of Bush. Perhaps that's why no serious impeachment movements are afoot.

6. well - TECHNICALLY
they haven't "called for Impeachment".

They've called for hearings and investigations into the scandal(s) - but they have called for impeachment, yet.

I think old Dan's a stickler for exactitude.

7. Glad you brought that up
I heard him this morning too, and that was also my take on it. I was also disturbed when his opinion of the Fitzgerald grand jury was that, "Nothing will come of it." Also, while the events surrounding Judith Miller were unfolding, he seemed to continually preface with, "My dear friend Judy Miller..." Maybe they are friends, but to me I heard an obvious bias. I did, however, enjoy the wry bit of sarcasm this morning when he said, "My good friend Richard Nixon" and proceeded to talk about how he had made Nixon's "enemies list." These days, though, it doesn't sound as though he's exactly on *'s enemies list.

I've been an NPR listener for many years, but they've been increasingly pissing me off, beginning with the build up to the 2000 election, where I first started detecting a right-wing bias. You're right, if I wanted republican talking points, I could have gone to plenty of other "news" outlets. And Daniel Schorr of all people!

8. Thanks, I needed to know if I heard it
the way I thought I had heard it. I am a creature of habit. I want to still think he's unbiased. I want to have that comfort that I can listen to him and trust him...still.

I'm whining now... I am so tired of listening intently to all radio broadcasts and reading deeply everything I can get my hands on on the internet and in print. I miss skimming the news superficially, and then missing days and days of up-to-date events and letting others tell me what I missed while deep in a project or just skipping out on current events for the heck of it.

I'm still whining. Guess I'll sign off now.
