Bush, NSA & Wiretaps - Hot Off The Biased, Leaky Press

'Tis a complex web which we weave, when 'tis the American people we try to deceive, exacerbated still, and against our will, just after the Patriot Act's demise on the previous eve! Yeah, I know. Poetry just isn't my gig. Sorry. But the point, nevertheless is still well taken. As I write this article, President Bush's public mea culpa to the American people is still only about two or three hours old. We now know, first by the New York Times story of December 16th, and now by President Bush's confirmation of that story today, that he authorized the National Security Agency (NSA) to conduct allegedly warrantless wiretaps on several American citizens deemed to be a threat to our national security.

In my previous and most recent article, "More On The Bush-Mexico-China Triangle," I lamented that we still have to put up with this guy for three more years, but even then, I didn't see this one coming. Nevertheless, I am trying to keep an open mind. Which way do you lean when both sides of an issue come from sources of dubious credibility? On one hand, we have The New York Times, which brought us the likes of Jason Blair, and a radical, biased, liberal agenda that is as equally evident on the front page as it is on the editorial page. The old gray lady's revised motto should be "All the news that's fit to wrap dead fish in." Then we have President Bush, either a deceptive chameleon, or a very confused man in ways more numerous than amusing verbal gaffs and mispronunciations.

What we saw, circa 1999 or so, is not what we see in 2005. We have a liberal, not a conservative; a spender, not a cutter; a globalist, not a nationalist; and an evangelic Christian who appoints people of pro-choice advocacy into high ranking positions of his cabinet, wishes supporters a "happy holiday season," just under a verse from the Psalms in his White House Christmas card, and someone who allowed Elton John and his gay lover to spend a night in the Lincoln bedroom, something similar in nature that we conservatives practically crucified Bill Clinton for when he was charging 25 grand a pop for that perk. Bush also cut taxes while increasing spending to levels that would even make Clinton blush (if such is even biologically possible), and fights a war on terrorism with one arm behind the country's back; "staying the course in Iraq" while leaving the back door wide open on the Mexican border, and thus allowing hundreds, if not thousands of "OTM"s, (No, those aren't cash machines, they are "Other Than Mexicans," and in many instances, are from nations deemed to be dangerous enemies of the US.) to enter the US, camouflaged among the many illegal immigrant Mexicans on the same route, who seem to enter with a wink and a nod from this president, if not outright encouragement.

In short, George W. Bush is Al Gore, with fewer delusions, but worse speaking skills. Many of us conservatives rightly chastised Gore for his incessant and seemingly schizophrenic identity changes of both personality traits and issue stances, but now to know where Bush stands on any issue, you must first tell him what day of the week it is. OK, so who do we believe, the Times, or Bush?......

1. Wow. That's a big sell, pushing Dubya as a liberal. Now THAT is desperate.

2. I don't think that was what he was saying, at least if you think
"liberal" is a good thing. What this bozo was saying, as I read it, is that King George is NOT a conservative at all. If that kind of thinking takes hold (may Allah be praised!) then the King will loose a good chunk of that 36% that always seems to support whatever assholeish idea he comes up with.

That's right, fellas. King George ain't no conservative. He's a monarchist.

3. The Echelon spying system has been around for quite a while
Back in the 1990's we were talking about the Jam Echelon days.
