Morford - George W. Bush Gives Me Hope
== George W. Bush Gives Me Hope =
The astonishing collapse of the Bumbling One surely means healthy change is imminent, right?

(By Mark Morford)
Nov. 18

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/gate/archive/2005/11/18/notes111805.DTL&nl=fix

Here's the good news: It really can't get much worse.

We cannot afford any more wars. The environment has been sold to the bone. The national spirit has been beaten like an Alaskan baby seal and the GOP has worked our last nerve, passed through the karmic blood-brain barrier, reached saturation to the point where even moderate Repubs and gobs of intelligent Christians are finally saying, Oh my God, what have we done, and how did it all go so wrong, and how much Prozac and wine and praying to a very disappointed Jesus will it take to fix it?

Which is why I'm here to tell you hope abounds. In fact, George W. Bush gives me hope. He gives me hope because he has led the country into a zone where the only way to go -- morally, spiritually, economically -- is up. Is out. He gives me hope because after it has all appeared so bleak and ugly and lost for so many years, it would now appear that all laws of karmic and poetic and moral justice still hold true. And how reassuring is that?

It is the eternal formula: When all is at its darkest, you cannot help but feel that some sort of transformational upswing must be just around the corner, one that maybe, just maybe contains the seeds of something resembling health and progress and revolution. Darkest before the dawn, baby, and don't you see the sky getting just a little bit lighter? ...

6. Of course he's right
its the nature of things. However, one must not celebrate too long as the pile of manure that confronts us is not a welocome scenario. Iraq will be...something....I don't know what, and the financial situation...global warming....so much work to do.

8. I know. Junior has left us one hell of a mess, and it will take a long
time to fix that.

2. These things don't fall over by themselves . . .

They have to be pushed. And Schimpanski is no more incompetent today than he was Nov 1 2004. Just as wicked, just as mendacious, just as bloody-mindedly foolish.

And still here.

Does Morford really think that because his view of Bush -- which many of us share -- has been proven right AGAIN, that we can dance in the streets singing "Ding-dong, the witch is dead"?

The goniff is still here, he still holds the nuclear (excuse me, nucular) keys, and the army and the congress and (soon enough) the Supreme Court.

Sure, Georgie's a sorry sack of shit -- but he's still here, and will be for 3 years. Longer, if they decide that things are too dangerous for a presidential election in 2008 and the chimp just has to stay in office "to protect America."

Sorry, Mark, it can get a whole lot worse -- and it probably will.

4. For sure, the dam has sprung a bunch of leaks . . .
And maybe they'll all be swept away when it breaks.

One can hope.

7. The old Nader theory. Fuck up the country so badly that it is forced to
behave decently. (And I don't mean to imply that that Fuck Nader has a remote clue about decency - he doesn't.)

Unfortunately the Nader theory came to us through criminality - with the name and future of the US sullied forever.

There is no victory here, only loss.

9. I have gone from an optimist straight over to a pessimist since
Bush was forced on us because every time he does something really awful I feel like nothing could happen that is worse and sure enough the next day it does.
