Bill and Hillary Clinton are expected to attend the 11th annual presidential conference at Hofstra University in Long Island New York. Concerned members of the Hofstra community will present a letter (below) to the senator and former president, and to the audiences at the conference. It will be read aloud, along with the names of fallen soldiers.
Dear President and Senator Clinton:
Welcome to Hofstra University. We are pleased by your presence here.
We write to you today because of the conjunction of two indisputable facts.
The first is this: The illegal and unprovoked invasion of Iraq by the United States is one of the greatest crimes in recent history, and one of the most destructive policies imaginable for both America's reputation and its security.
The other is simply that you two are by far and away the most broadly recognized leaders of America's nominal opposition party.
We, the undersigned, believe the Democratic Party has a moral obligation to stand firm in opposition to the reckless and destructive policies of the Bush administration in Iraq. And, since you are the face of that party, we believe you have the obligation to articulate that opposition on behalf of Democrats and patriotic Americans of all political persuasions.
We therefore call upon you to meet your moral obligations to a country which has so warmly embraced and so greatly entrusted you, to make a clear and unequivocal statement of opposition to the madness of George Bush's adventure in Iraq, and to do so now, before even greater damage can be done to that country and to ours.
