The Council on Foreign Relations power elites still rule the White House
What can you do? First, recognize that their is an interlocking network of power structures during the presidential elections that seek to give you a choice between their candidates in either party. Then, look for the candidate who is not "connected" to the CFR, or the Order of Skull & Bones, or the Trilateral Commission. You could find an American candidate instead of a globalist candidate if you make the attempt.

Second, don't worry so much about who the president is. That seat has been wrapped up for decades by the CFR team, but instead pay extra attention to getting the right person in Congress in your congressional district. There are 435 congressional races and only one presidential race. If a faction or conspiracy within our nation wanted to control one of the three branches of government which would be the easiest to capture? The executive branch is only one race, not 435 races, so which would you chose?

Third, hold your elected officials strictly accountable to the Constitution with your letters, phone calls and visits. That way you have a standard to hold them to and to judge their performance by, the standard set by the Constitutional Convention that created the form of our Republic and gave it the limited authorities that were delegated to it by the states. This means of course you would have to study the constitution and understand it before you can expect adherence from those you elect. But, hey, the constitution is only 1/4 of an inch thick. Its not so difficult.

The old saying applies," ignorant and free can never be." If you expect to be ignorant of the constitution, ignorant of the power cabals operating in politics, and ignorant of the associations of the candidates to such cabals and yet expect to remain free, that's an unlikely proposition. May God bless America. Specifically may God bless America with an awakening public that can discern when they are in the hands of wolves in sheep's clothing.

1. There's an idea,
lets indulge in more right-wing conspiracy theories.

And the guy who wrote it - from his bio "With seven years on the field Staff of The John Birch Society"

Clearly you're willing to accept bullshit that the right has been peddling for years.

The CFR has something like 4000 members - some obviously higher profile than others and aside from stating a purpose of "increasing America's understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy" doesn't take individual stands. (Not quite true, as it was set up as a counter to US isolationism.) At best you could use "Foreign Affairs" as a guide, but that doesn't particularly hold to a set editorial policy (and as I'm sure you know, meetings operate under Chatham House rules, so there are no public transcripts - other than when the hold public meetings (which is actually reasonably frequently)).

There is a bias at the CFR towards the so-called "liberal elite" pro-UN world order - with America's position ranging from equal partner to empire leader. The right have long argued that this is all a plot for the UN (or a similar agent) to take over the world. (Sometimes the UN is a front for the Illuminati, sometimes satanic forces, sometimes communism, etc)

It is worth pointing out that it gets funding from corporations and although I wouldn't say it restricted opinion, it is strongly associated with globalisation (so more DLC Dems than not).

None of the above, IMO, demonstrats that the CFR has some kind of puppet power over its members. OTher than a place to exchange ideas & lobby public (although more specifically policy-maker & academic) opinion, I fail to see that it controls the President, or his team. Corporations do a FAR better job of that.

Other than that, there is nothing to the piece you post that hasn't been debunked a thousand times before. Incidentally, from what I've read Foreign Affairs has been hardly supportive of the neo-cons.

I'll also point out that the guy he cites - Steve Bonta - is Executive Director of Robert Welch University (Welch is the founder of the John Birch Society). Also, for fun, the guy who wrote the foreward to David Ray Griffin's first book on 9-11 is a CFR member (and Griffin is an advocate for global governance).

edit - I was also going to say that with 4000 members, it's hardly suprising that Bush a few in his administration. It does house some of the best American minds.

4. We still have non choices when it comes to presidential elections

Kerry is CFR. We will never get the chance to vote for a democratic presidential candidate that would really change anything when it comes to U.S. foreign policy. That's not a "conspiracy theory" rather reality.

5. But then a large part of Kerry's Senate career
is founded on foreign relations. The Central American hearings, the BCCI investigation and the Vietnam POW/MIA stuff (plus his interest in oil dependency and funding for terrorism). You'd kind of expect him to want to be part of a 4000 member club of people with similar interests.

I do get what you're saying though -- although again, the CFR is far more State Dept (pro-diplomacy, UN-centric world order) than DoD/CIA. There is a certain establisment consensus in the West about the world which still has huge hangups from colonial times (or denial about Empire in the case of the uS). Somewhat thankfully though, that consensus has also generally kept up the nutters (ie the people who wanted the Cold War to go hot) or - as per the Reagan administration - kept them in lower positions.

I do agree though, as great as it would be, you'll never get a President like this:

"If I was president of the United States, this is what I would do:
On the first day, I would extend an apology to all orphans and widows and victims of U.S. foreign policy.

On the second day, I would announce that we won't intervene anywhere else.

On the third day, I'd tell Israel, "your country is not the 51st state but a foreign country," and then reduce the military budget 90 percent and pay reparations to all families in the world destroyed by U.S. foreign policy.

On the fourth day, I would be assassinated." - William Blum

A final random fact about the right-wing anti-CFR paranoia ... they even tried to get Hoover to have a little look-see:

The Council on Foreign Relations, a sister organization to the Institute of International Affairs, in London, was formed in 1922 as a noncommercial, nonpolitical organization supporting American foreign relations. Although the FBI never investigated the Council on Foreign Relations, the FBI received numerous inquiries from private citizens who were concerned that the organization was subversive and communist inspired. The FBI investigated a matter in which an unknown subject using the name of the Council on Foreign Relations distributed material promoting their "goal for world communism" to numerous United States Senators and United States Representatives.
