President Should Get His News From Newspapers - Helen Thomas
President Should Get His News From Newspapers
Bush Tells Fox Interviewer He Gets News From White House Staff

POSTED: 5:33 p.m. EDT October 10, 2003

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush recently gave an hour-long exclusive interview to Fox TV anchor Brit Hume, who tossed him a series of softball questions.

Among them, Bush was asked how he gets his news.

Answer: He relies on briefings by chief of staff Andrew Card and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice.

He walks into the Oval Office in the morning, Bush said, and asks Card: "what's in the newspapers worth worrying about? I glance at the headlines just to kind of (get) a flavor of what's moving," Bush said. "I rarely read the stories," he said.

1. I called C-Span yesterday AM & asked
if anyone had awakened bush to tell him about the Baghdad bombing since he only gets news from advisers. Said the Wilson's and their children were in danger from TREASON gate in the White House. As it turned out, CNN woke up State, Defense and White House - none of them knew a thing about it. bush was hungover from Saturday night, I'm sure.

12. I was astonished when I heard them say that on CNN on Sunday
Morning.

One thing I wonder though -- shouldn't some of the RWers in the State/Defense/WH been up for Church that morning? I guess they were sleeping in too.

2. What an idiot
Even people with measurable IQ's read some part of the newspapers--the man is totally lacking in intellectual curiosity. What an embarrassment to this country.

3. This really comes as no surprise
The guy has no curiosity and a short fuse, a terrible combination for a head of state. All we really have to do to understand the depth of his ignorance is to remember that his undergraduate degree is supposedly in history, and we all know that he has little understanding of that discipline.

Spoon-fed what he wants to hear. What an embarassment for our Nation to have such an incompetent President.

11. bush* only wants to hear about "happy Iraqi" stories....
from Helen....

"Thomas Jefferson, relentless in his defense of the First Amendment, was fed up with the attacks on his leadership when he served as the nation's third president.

But Jefferson is remembered for saying he "would rather have newspapers without government than government without newspapers."
--------------------------------------

bush* just wants government without newspapers...bush* highly praised rush-the-heroin-addict only a few days before he entered rehab....bush* wants NO newspapers, just hate radio for his base of functional illiterates, who glorify the ramblings of a delusional nasty-ass heroin addict....

15. come come, my little droogies ...
I remember an interview with candidate "W" where he claimed to read the Dallas Morning News every day. This is a Republican apologist paper that dominates the northeast Texas area. I had my doubts at that time that he actually read it but this was part of his rehearsed response to the 'What do you read?' question (honest answer, "Ugh, the back of cereal boxes? Does that count?")

During the campaign, the Morning News' Rena Peterson ran repeated articles where she kept finding something heroic to spotlight in this dunderhead. I think his handlers felt obligated to at least pretend that "W" was appreciative and mention it as part of his imaginary reading list.

16. He has stated before that he hates to read
this was years ago and since then his advisors have made it a point to pepper the media with info on his current reading. Which I doubt he actually does. He's an unintellectual boob. He doesn't have the inquisitive nature of your average person. I know people without a high school diploma who are more articulate and well read than Bush. This doesn't mean he is a bad person or anything, but what is this rube doing as the President of the most powerful country on earth? His reputation and prominence as the face of our country is embarrassing for us. It makes our populace look foolish.
