Democrats hope for traction against scandal-plagued Republicans
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democrats in Congress, who have steadily lost ground against governing Republicans in recent voting, are hoping that mounting ethics scandals will prompt voters to defect from George W. Bush's Republican party, with the 2006 legislative elections looming.

Democrats hoping to capitalize on the corruption allegations have their biggest target in their nemesis, House Majority Leader
Tom DeLay, who on Wednesday was forced to step aside temporarily after being indicted on a campaign finance charge in Texas.

The scandal, heaped on top of recent allegations against the Senate's Republican leader, gives opposition Democrats a chance to profile themselves to voters as the party of higher ethical standards.

Nancy Pelosi, the top House Democrat, pushed the case that DeLay's alleged ethical lapses point to decrepitude within the governing party.

"The Republicans are crumbling," Pelosi said at a press conference in Washington Thursday.

5. The opening sentence alone reveals the fundamental problem with Democrats
> Democrats in Congress ... are hoping that mounting ethics scandals
> will prompt voters to defect from George W. Bush's Republican party...

That says it all, doesn't it? These milquetoast "representatives" don't have an ounce of courage or intelligence between them. They're just sitting there, "hoping" that things will change, apparently all on their own. I guess they're waiting for "it" to just "happen" somehow magically.

Here's an idea, you useless tumors on society: Get off your lazy fat asses and make it happen. The only thing between our current miasma and something possibly resembling the country we all though we lived in is your deciding to do your fucking jobs and make it happen.

9. "Democrats in Congress"
I do think there are Democrats with both brains and courage.

Where does it go when they get elected?

7. Democrats need to make the issues relavant.
They just can't 'hope' that things go their way.

10. We need a gimmick like 1994's "Contract with America" something easily
understood by Americans.

I submit, "Restoration of Sanity".

11. Let's see - Clinton came from Hope Arkansas. That should be the only
hope in the Democratic party.

What happened to goals, plans, and actions?

12. Actually "Americans" hope for traction against scandal plagued Republicans
It's not about parties, because the Republican party and many within the Democratic party have been bribed by corporate interests.

This is about Americans taking back their Democracy. However, the media continues to try and divide Americans.
