Allen author compiles the good news from Iraq

Eric Holmes, 43, of Allen, decided it was time America heard some good news.

Holmes, a military man, knew there was more going on in Iraq than what the national media was telling. So he, along with Michael Parkhouse, got to those whose job it is to rebuild the war-torn country of Iraq and let them tell their story.

He does just that in his book "Iraq: Providing Hope.".

Holmes spent nine years on active duty as infantry officer, the next nine years in telecom and is currently working with a defense contractor working on future Army combat systems.

He lives with his wife, Jenni, and his two sons Lane and Tyler, who both attend Boon Elementary.

Q: What things have the news media left out when covering the rebuilding efforts in Iraq?
A: The news media, the last few years, is ignoring several facts, which frame the discussion.

Then in the rebuilding efforts, everything is left out. The news today calls the terrorist "insurgents" and classifies the attacks as a struggle for power between the groups in Iraq. In reality, the situation is a building process where the U.S. is providing leadership to rebuild the infrastructure that Saddam tore apart, train the military and police, and advise in the creation of a democracy with respective roles of the government and defense.

In the midst of building a democracy out of a socialized dictatorship, terrorists are creating havoc to undermine the United States and take control of Iraq. The daily progress of rebuilding is rarely covered and not understood.

For the most part, the journalists are not venturing out beyond the hotels of Baghdad and they are ignoring the press announcements put out by the Defense Department. The average American is thus not being informed.

3. Saddam's Iraq was a well functioning country

Despite the oppressive tyranny, it wasn't the Hell it is now.

Excellent education (highest literacy rates in the arab region), good universities, good infrastructure, cheap gas, good medical care,
etc., etc., etc...

When the US is done with it, it'll resemble Sudan, only without the stability....

2. You have to go to Iraq to print DoD press releases? That's news to me.

And the Shock and Awe opening salvo of the Iraq invasion must have been Saddam blowing up Baghdad, since he's the one who destroyed Iraq. Uh-huh.

The "insurgents" are really terrorists trying to take control of Iraq. Well, yes, they're mostly Iraqis trying to take control of Iraq. One could fairly call them resistance fighters too.

Did anyone move his hand up and down in front of this guy's face to make sure he's not a pod person?

i trust the defense department to tell the truth at all times. the military, unlike the press, has no agenda.
