Christian Exodus urges relocation to the South
Evangelicals seek strong role in S. Carolina
-----------------
By Paul Nussbaum
Knight Ridder Newspapers
-----------------
GREENVILLE, S.C. —

(snip)

In the South Carolina of their dreams, abortion would be illegal. The Ten Commandments would be proudly displayed. Public schools would be a thing of the past. Taxes would be severely limited, and property rights would be paramount.

And if the federal government tried to interfere, well, they'd secede.

(snip)

"Historically, evangelical Christianity has had a vacillating relationship with the culture,'' said James L. Guth, a professor of political science at Furman University here, who has studied the influence of religion on politics. "For much of the 19th century, evangelical Protestants were the culture. A lot of that changed for a while in the 20th century. ... They tried to wall themselves off from the culture.''

(snip)

"We believe that Christ's admonition to go and make disciples of all nations does not exclude any facets of life,'' Burnell said by telephone from his Valley Springs, Calif., home. "We're asking people to move and do something new. Our intent is to put men in office who will do what (ousted Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice) Roy Moore did — defy the federal government.''

The group's goal is to have 2,500 members in two upstate South Carolina counties by September 2006, and as many as 12,000 by 2008. That, Burnell said, would be enough to elect local candidates and snowball into a statewide force. Soon, enough right-thinking officials would be elected to force a confrontation with the feds.

(snip)

"I don't think it will come to bloodshed,'' he said. "I think it will come to compromise.''

Don't stop in South Carolina. I mean, it's still the U.S., with all of the U.S.' problems: low ride jeans, MTV, birth control devices right out there in the Piggly Wiggly where God and everyone can get their hands on them. I think it's time for all conservative evangelical Christians to consider Patagonia as the New Promised Land. It's beautiful, thinly populated, thousands of miles away and almost entirely free of internet porn and offensive rap lyrics. All of us worldly sinners here in el Norte will support your relocation plans. Hell, I'll personally drive you to the airport, free of charge. Adios, amigos--and don't let the proverbial door hit you in the ass.

14. We'll have to do something special to help out Dems wanting to
leave SC and needing help to relocate. SC probably isn't big enough, and I'm not too happy giving them such a beautiful state, but if we could isolate them, I'm all for it.

16. I'm all for it.
However, South Carolina is much to nice for them. They need to prove their love for their religion by going some place much hotter.
Also, they will need to stand on their own two feet and not ask the rest of us for hand outs when their little experiment fails. And it will fail.

19. They should move to Texas
I believe Texas is the only state with the right to secede and I would be very grateful if they did.
I live in a neighboring state
This is a report from a few yrs ago .
" The Republic of Texas separatist group seeks to re-establish Texas as a sovereign nation. To that end, the organization has waged "paper terrorism" against the legal system, clogging the courts with countless liens and other dubious claims."

20. These morans think that they will move to SC and one day wake
up in Mayberry where no one really seems to work, but everyone is fairly well off; everybody goes to church and there aren't any black folks, foreign folks, or homos; Andy and Barney are the only cops and they don't carry guns; the worse that can happen is the town gets occasionally invaded by the Darlins or Ernest T. or the Mount Pilot Party Girls, and laughter ensues. These brain-dead gibbering idiots think that they either won't need money or that they will be supported by the vast Right Wing Machine. All I can say is - South Carolina, get ready for a lot of welfare Christians and plenty of bloodshed, because these people mean no one any good...

31. Christian Exodus
Give them North Dakota, Most of the people there would gladly relocate they could even trade-off.The state is hugely under populated and the US would barely miss it. Heck even during the the"Indian Wars" of the 1800's it wasn't fought over. South Dakota was but North wasn't mentioned.
Apologies to anyone from No Dak, but I've been there many times (father-in-law lives there, spends most of his time in Twin Cities and I don't mean Fargo-Moorhead)

33. That is a veiled threat
"I don't think it will come to bloodshed,'' he said. "I think it will come to compromise."

Move in on the people, and force them to "compromise". Oh, I don't think it will come to bloodshed....

That is an underhanded threat of violence, plain as day. Do these people ever read the Sermon on the Mount or the Beatitudes as carefully as they read Paul or Moses?

Christianity is a failure, evidenced by what it does to idiots by the likes of Cory Burnell and misJudge Roy Moore and their following. Their minds are so drugged by their beliefs. From what I gather in this article, they believe they are saving a little corner of the world for good when in reality they are being rude, intrusive and disrespectful of the people in South Carolina. But that's par for the course in the history of evangelicals.

If the local community doesn't make it clear what it is they want, then these pious thugs will infect yet another corner of the US.

The article also mentions their rationale that South Carolina could always leave the U.S. - for the third time.
