'Downing Street memo' raises questions

Our View
June 23, 2005

On July 23, 2002, British Prime Minister Tony Blair held a meeting with his top national security advisors to talk about Iraq and the looming specter of armed conflict. The meeting was a forthright and confidential discussion, one that was not to be shared with anyone else.

Thankfully, someone was taking notes.

Those notes, released May 1, have become known as the "Downing Street memo," named after the British prime minister's official residence. Contained in the memo are British assertions on U.S. policy on dealing with Iraq, and many are, quite frankly, damning.

--snip--

We submit to you, if the Downing Street memo is indeed true, articles of impeachment:

Count 1: Manipulating intelligence to falsely support a case for war.

Count 2: Not having enough foresight to properly plan for the occupation and post-war Iraq.

Let the trial begin.

----------------

Alabama is the belly of the beast. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a car with one of those heinous black "W" stickers on it. I say bravo to the brave and honest student journalists at UA. They have more guts and integrity than 99.9% of their "professional" colleagues.

6. Let it begin!
I want nothing more than to see this president, his administration, and the Neo-Conservative war-mongering branch of the Republican party utterly destroyed for what they have done. I want to see them completely wiped out and ruined, forever condemned in the annals of history for their lies and chicanery. I will personally work toward this goal with every fiber of my being, and I will not rest until they are brought down.

Indeed -- Let the trial begin!
