THE RISE AND RISE OF HILLARY CLINTON
-----------------------------
By Richard Reeves
-----------------------------
NEW YORK -- Flying across the country the other day, I sat next to a retired Air Force colonel, and we had a pleasant conversation about love of flying, travel and grandchildren -- and, for him, of retirement itself. "Yeah," he said, "there's only one thing that would make me give this up."

"What's that?"

"If Hillary or Jane Fonda runs for president, I'm going to work full time to beat her."

I told him I knew Hillary -- she doesn't even need a last name now -- and she's no Jane Fonda. He was not persuaded. I told him she had voted for the war in Iraq. "Exactly," he said; that proved what a phony she was.

"Well," I concluded before we began talking about planes and kids again, "I think you're going to get your chance. I think she's going to run."

1. Hillary hating
There's a lot of it around here, too.

I never could figure out that circular firing squad thing.

2. It is amazing how deep the hatred is and when you question the haters
they give you these looks like "are you stupid" but they never tell you the reasons for the hate

3. I've got nothing against Hillary, but
I don't think she should run for president. She will draw so much nasty right-wing flak that she won't be able to deal with the issues. It is unfortunate and unfair, but that is the way it is. She can do so much good as senator from New York. I hope she remains in that position for a very long time. She would just be a huge distraction as the Democratic candidate.

4. Yeah
that's probably a big part of my opposition to her running for president. The shitstorm would be of epic proportions.

16. No circular firing squad here, Hilary's a DINO just
like Biden and Lieberman. I don't claim them and I resent have this DINO forced on me seemingly EVERY damn day.

I hate them (DINOs) all equally so there's no extra angst save for your cheer leading.

I'm sick of hearing about Hilary! She doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning as well as being a warmonger and lover of everything Sharon of Israel wants to do. No, NO HILARY.

BTW if you think I'm bad, you should see the freepers.

19. Yes, that's the case.
The Republicans want her in there for one reason. Easy to beat.

6. The MSM is still blaming the Clintons for polarizing the country.
"Joe Klein of Time magazine...believes a Hillary candidacy will polarize the country the way the reign of the Clintons polarized us in the 1990s."

Umm...HELLO!!!

What about the last 5 years? Are we not more polarized now than ever before because of the Republicans? Why does the media never wonder about how polarizing your average republican (and by average, I mean right wing extremist fascist by any fair standard) candidate will be at a national level? Why do they still act as if it's the Clintons fault that the Republicans go nuclear when their name appears on the ballot? Is no one supposed to stand up to these precious republicans, because it might piss them off again and they couldn't be held responsible for what they did next? :eyes:

9. Reminds me of the GOP & Viet-Kong. They fought for 30 years and when
they got power, everyone found out they're just a bunch of hillbillies incapable of governing. Hillary and Dean are the best Dems to govern after they win.

11. I'm sure Bill and Poppy will have much to discuss during the
Kennebunkport visit. Ugh, I just thought of something--someone please tell me the visit isn't this weekend (Father's Day)?!

14. Is Bill Clinton going to Kennegunkport?
To the Walker compound? Really? Wow--that is really an accomplishment. Next? To the ranch in Crawford?

Is this really true?

15. The bottom line is that her "negatives" are too high
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 06:42 PM by depakid
And she won't be able to win a general election.

That may not be fair- but that's they way it is. You better hope the Dems realize it.

17. So are GW's and it has never stopped him...
stop looking at the negatives and look at the positives. A lot of people truly cant stand GW. If Hillary runs, she will have figured it out. She wont run unless she really thinks she can win.

18. Bush didn't have high negatives when he first ran
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 04:28 AM by depakid
Nobody really knew who he was- and the papers weren't allowed to say!

Moreover, Hillary- like her husband- is all about herself. It's not about what's good for the party or the country- it's an ego thing.

Mondale was a lot like that, too. He didn't have a chance- yet AND the party "leadership" insisted on derailing the only person who did (and I personally believe would have won in 1984)- Gary Hart.

If Hillary gets nominated- it'll the same thing all over again....

20. but the second time around, Bush certainly did...
I say, quit playing defense and start playing offense. The neocons certianly dont think about high negatives regarding Social Security. If Hillary does run, she will have very carefully calculated out how she will overcome any negative factors and how her positives will give her the momentum she needs.

If Hillary doesnt think she will make it, she wont run.

If we keep thinking about high negatives, we will never get anything done. Let's go on the offensive with a positive message.

21. Clinton/Clark 2008
Clinton/Clark 2008

I think that's it's '08 or never for Sen. Clinton.

The DLC is crumbling, no matter how many times Al From disses Michael Moore, corporatism and Big Politics is going to come to an end. She must strike while the DLC still has clout.

Dean is severing the connection, slowly, and Bernie Sanders, Democratic-Socialist, will be a Senator next year, and heads will turn. Dean has endorsed his run.

And any dumb-ass centrist who tries to get in Sanders' way next year will be so totally defeated, they will cry for 10 years.

Amen.
