How long can Bush spin big lies into truth on Iraq war?

As the criminal, sinful war in Iraq enters its third year, the president is in Europe to heal the wounds between the United States and its former allies, on his own terms, of course. The White House propaganda mill hails it as another victory for the president and ignores the fact that most Europeans still consider the war dangerous folly and the president a dangerous fool.

Would it not be much better to have a president who deliberately lied to the people because he thought a war was essential than to have one who was so dumb as to be taken in by intelligence agencies, especially those who told him what he wanted to hear?

Finally, we are told that the Iraqi election confirms the Bush administration policy in Iraq. The president's supporters must be in deep trouble to reach so far for that one. All the election proves is that the Iraqis want to run their own country. It also raises the possibility that Shia clerics will deliver Iraq into the hands of the Iranians. Some kind of victory!

You can still get away with the "big lie" as long as Karl Rove and his team of spinners keep providing persuasive rationalizations. The American public is still supine, uneasy about the war, but not willing yet to turn decisively against it. Will that still be the case next year when we "celebrate" the third anniversary of the war? Is the patience of the American people that long-suffering? Is there no outrage left in the country? How many people have to die before the public realizes that American foreign policy is a tissue of lies?

1. Outrage?
Edited on Fri May-06-05 03:40 PM by orwell
True outrage will only erupt when the spoiled spectators in the Coliseum no longer receive either their bread or circus.

The ad-abused, putty-pliant citizens, egged on by the corrupt chattering class, will suffer any "crisis", manufactured or otherwise. What they will never stand for is the cold slap in the face of the coming deprivations.

Our rallying cry: "Give me entitlement or give you death!"

2. Liberty Lovers
I believe that too many times liberals and progs assume too much about our political rivals I fear being black listed but there are many rational and intelligent conservatives who allow themselves to see other's view but feel better represented by the republicans. Not all Repub. are slack-jawed, Angelic Christian, Racists (just most of them). There are many people who trust in their government and president. Though I believe their trust is undeserving, to them liberals seem like the anarchy rallying locos. It's not hard to understand either. Passion is often confused with madness. My point is that no matter where the war is going there will always be people who stand behind their leaders decisions blindly. The ones that we must worry about are the ones who don't care. Apathy is what's fueling this war of oil.

4. Unfortunately, Rove and the gang....
can continue to spin lies until the cows come home. Fortunately for us, the public believes it less and less with each day (see Bush's approval ratings over the last few months). I'm happy to say, that I think the neo-cons and their religious zealot friends may have overstepped their bounds, and it's starting to bite them in the A**. Its about time.

5. The recent resurgence in violence in Iraq
...is a turning point. Now people realize that that the resistance isn't going away. Putin encourages us to stay there, to bleed us white.

The American corporate media are stupid to the bone.

How much longer can they hold the US Army together? The longer we stay the more our national security is compromised to serve a narrow clique of corporate benefactors from the war.
