2 Evangelicals Want to Strip Courts' Funds

4/22/05

By Peter Wallsten Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — Evangelical Christian leaders, who have been working closely with senior Republican lawmakers to place conservative judges in the federal courts, have also been exploring ways to punish sitting jurists and even entire courts viewed as hostile to their cause.

An audio recording obtained by the Los Angeles Times features two of the nation's most influential evangelical leaders, at a private conference with supporters, laying out strategies to rein in judges, such as stripping funding from their courts in an effort to hinder their work.

The discussion took place during a Washington conference last month that included addresses by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who discussed efforts to bring a more conservative cast to the courts.

"This will not be the last thing that you read about that makes me look ridiculous," he said.

1. Just shows how depraved the GOP has become
"Perkins and Dobson laid out a history of court rulings they found offensive, singling out the recent finding by the Supreme Court that executing minors was unconstitutional."

These MF assholes! Culture of Life my ass. They shoot abortion doctors and bomb abortion clinics because they are "killing babies." But they get pissed off when courts won't put children to death! These are the pond scum that are driving the Republican Party.

:nuke:

2. Two thoughts - but probably unconstitutional as hell

Bill of Rights-->

      Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

      Amendment VII

In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Such a blatant attempt to interfere with the Courts is unconstitutional and "UnAmerican." Maybe we need a new "House UnAmerican Activities Committee" to investigate these clearly unConstitutional and unAmerican activities.

I agree- they should lose their tax exempt status -- IRC 502(c)(3).

I am a "Faith Based Progressive Liberal of Faith" -- a follower of Jimmie Carter, MLK Jr, Jim Wallis, Michael Lerner, Msgr Charles Owens Rice, etc. Dobson et al are blasphemers and heretics who Take the Name of the Lord in Vain.

3. Dobson Focus on the Family Telephone poll
I have no idea how they got my number but I received a call yesterday from Dobson's Focus on the family. A poll with 3 questions. I can't remember the questions exactly but the first two started something like, "Are you aware that Democrats are". One was about Bush's nominees to various posts being questioned and the other was about the blocking of Bush's judicial nominees. Of course the questions were worded in the worst possible manner. The third question asked if I agreed that marriage should be only between a man and a woman blah blah blah.

I just wish I could see their face when they hear my answers.

5. This recent law school graduate ..
finds the idea of this HORRIFYING.

The judiciary was designed to be INDEPENDENT.

It was designed to protect the minority.

It was designed to take very unique looks at each case.

If they feel threatened, they are not independent.

I knew that they would be attacking the judiciary right after the election, because it was the only branch they didn't control. But I was amazed at how fast the attack started, and how vicious it was.

I believe that Dobson and Perkins (etc.) will overreach, and, in the end, torpedo the Cause.

Thoughts?
