Texas is No. 1, but not without DeLay
Great article on Tom DeLay by John Kerr of the Odessa American Newspaper that's right next door to Midland Texas.

Texas has a good shot at displacing Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas as the leader in putting flawed politicians on the national stage. But the perennial champions of poor collective political judgment have been North and South Carolina, where voters repeatedly sent Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms to the U.S. Senate, thereby proclaiming to the world, yes, these are the men who truly represent our values.

snip....

For me, the most character-revealing DeLay episode occurred in 1998 after a police officer was fatally shot in the U.S. Capitol Building.
Turns out the slain officer once worked on DeLay’s security detail. Soon enough, there was DeLay on television, presenting himself to be consoled alongside grieving members of the lawman’s family, giving numerous interviews that enabled him to bask in the light of the fallen officer’s heroics.
No shame. None.

snip...

And earlier this week, Sen. Cornyn made his bid for freakish national attention by, in effect, linking the performance of the judiciary in general with recent fatal attacks on judges and their families.
Well done, Sen. Cornyn.
No, fellow Texans, if we aren’t No. 1 already, I’m pretty sure we soon will be.

Will Tom Craddick follow suit and go down with that other Tom?
