Bush’s barnstorming on Social Security plan not working (SL Trib)
Poll ratings: His idea is less popular than months ago

By Tom Raum
The Associated Press

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The more President Bush stumps for restructuring Social Security, the less popular his own plan seems to become. His poll ratings are dropping, too, but Bush says he is not deterred. <snip>

Barnstorming on behalf of a presidential proposal is a time-honored technique to build grass-roots support. Bush used the strategy successfully in his first term for his tax cuts and for a Medicare prescription drug benefit.

This time, it doesn’t seem to be working.

Not quite five months after a re-election victory that he claimed earned him political capital to spend, Bush’s approval ratings are languishing in the mid-40 percent range. <snip>

2. How many brain cells do you have
to be missing to keep thinking this lack of a "plan" is going to be accepted by the American People?

I'm really hoping this is the Major Uniting Force that brings bush down!

4. Also I want to comment on
the "political capital" bush speaks of that he is going "to spend"..

bush ain't got shit..he and the rodents have wiped out our treasury and they're working on our Blood!

he belongs at the Hague but I'm afraid the World is too timid right now..may Courage come to all who would oppose.. the regime of the rogue elephants!

5. GOP hacks claim victory: US now thinking about SocSec
This was an actual entry in James Ridgeway's column this week in the Village Voice. According to JR some GOP bs-spinners are claiming they are winning because now they have the average American citizen thinking about Social Security's problems.

Apparently they don't think the average American citizen is smart enough to make the connection between the "problem" and the huge tax breaks given to the rich over the last few years.

Americans are thinking about Social Security's problems, and it seems to me like they are seeing the GOP as one of the major ones.

The Swift Boat Whores are backing that ad for Shrub that features a clock running while they ask the viewer to think of anything Democrats have contributed to the debate over Social Security.

I saw that ad and the first thing that came to mine was, hey, how about Social Security itself? Sure as hell wasn't the idea of any neo OR paleoconservatives.

ANd I renewed my membership in AARP as soon as I saw that house get torn down.
