Here is my latest submission to
WatchingtheWatchers.org. It is a rebuke of the recent Weekly Standard column written by Power Line's John Hinderaker. (Featuring artwork by the
Reverend Mykeru.)
Here are a few paragraphs:
Could it be that, after four years of a Bush Presidency, with the constant exploitation of 9/11, the calculated attempts to wrestle away Roosevelt’s social safety net, and regular, yet underreported, political scandals, the American people are afflicted with “Bush Fatigue”? We, as a people, are not a group of political animals all the time. We watch a hell of a lot of TV, though, so when Congress, the Republican hegemony of which is not up to debate, abuses its power to intervene into a private family matter, is it really any wonder that the “Party of Lincoln” is a-sinkin’?
The concept of Bush Fatigue is lost on Hinderaker. In his mind, the slipping poll numbers can only point to the inconsequential minutiae that is the “GOP talking points memo” on the Terri-inspired legislation, a.k.a the Protection of Incapacitated Persons Act. We debate with facts, not the facts themselves, so I will admit that the source of the memo is unknown, but to write that ”a reasonable conclusion would be that the ‘talking points memo’ might be a fake, created by Democrats to cast aspersions on the motives of the Republican leadership” is not only irrational, but indecent. Where are the facts? Where are the sources?

I personally cringe whenever I see graduates of the Blogging School of Hugh Hewitt referring to “bloggers” in the catch-all sense. Not all blogs are political, and not all blogs are part of the Republican Shill Machine (RSM). I’m not typing this for my sake. They aren’t really that interested in “accuracy”.
(Much more with fun links, including the one where Hindrocket shoots off an embarassing email to a big time liberal blogger.)
