Reva Rasmussen: When the GOP wanted less intrusion and the Democrats had spineI miss the old Republican Party. They were people you could talk to and you talked to them not because you had to, but because you wanted to. You talked to them because they were neighbors or relatives with a different point of view and a discussion was fun or enlightening; it was a matter of a different philosophy of government, not a matter of loyalty or patriotism.
I generally didn't agree with their view of how to govern, but it was consistent and I agreed completely with the idea of an individual being in charge of his or her own life. Republicans wanted less intrusion into private lives and that meant less intrusion into private lives.

Lately, I've found I have something in common with my Republican friends that I never expected: They don't like the Republican Party, either. I'm better off than my Republican friends -- I often have good people to vote for.
They're going to have to get active and take back their party or they'll have to become Democrats. I suggest house parties. I've got moveon.org; maybe they could get something like TakeBacktheRight.org.
Sorry, friends, I don't have time to help save the Republican Party; I'm working to get the Democrats back on track.
