President Bush Selects Johns Hopkins Physicist Michael D. Griffin to Head

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. Mar 11, 2005 — President Bush on Friday picked physicist Michael Griffin to lead NASA as it prepares to resume space shuttle flights and tries to meet the White House goal of sending astronauts back to the moon in the decade ahead.

1. What's up? This guy sounds qualified to hold this position
I would expect Bush to have selected the president of the Flat-Earth Society to be NASA chief. That would be more in keeping with his other appointments.

5. Thanks. Hmm, possible ulterior motives for this nomination:
1. Privatize space exploration to shovel money into the pockets of the aerospace industry or other corporate interests

2. Use space technology for CIA surveillance purposes or some other dark purpose. Star Wars missile defense systems, perhaps. Or something worse.
