"Military policy on gays is costly and dangerous" article
As a straight male, I don't get the the "don't ask, don't tell" policy at all. At a time where the military is being stretched paper-thin, it makes no sense to kick people out who want to be there, especially for reasons unrelated to job performance. I wouldn't have a problem with the military disciplining soldiers (gay or straight) for sexual misconduct, but this policy does not address this at all, and IMO makes gays 'guilty' by default and for reasons unrelated to their job. This policy seems irrational to begin with, and even moreso when many of those dismissed are in very important fields (translators, intelligence, engineers, etc).
