Party Can Now Believe In Lincoln's Ideals
Helen Thomas, Hearst White House columnist

POSTED: 5:25 pm EST February 16, 2005

<SNIP>
The Democratic National Committee did the right thing by putting Howard Dean at the helm.

Now the Democrats will be enabled to become what they were before -- people who believe, as Lincoln did, that government should do for people what they cannot do for themselves.

In other words, to protect the social safety net programs for the disadvantaged, including Head Start and vocational programs, which President George W. Bush has severely slashed in the next budget.

The president says he wants to create an "ownership society," but to the deprived it is known as the "you're-on-your-own-society."

5. No greater compliment than to have the Queen of Journalism
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 10:56 PM by shance
as in Helen Thomas, write such a supportive, enthusiastic article about a person, much less an ex-presidential candidate!

She does not come by compliments easily.

They have to be earned with Helen.

Thank you for posting!
