New Haven Register supports "George W. Bush Highway"
The RW Register preposterously accuses the city of New Haven of "not having the good grace" to respect the office of President because our Mayor, along with lots of other New Haveners (including me), of opposing a Republican state legislator's attempt to rename Rt. 34 the "George W. Bush Highway." This should be done, we are told, because Bush was born in New Haven.

Funny, during the campaign Bush's bio conveniently left out the fact that he was born in New Haven (while Poppy was finishing up at Yale after the war). For years, he deliberately misled Texans who assumed he was born in Texas.

1. The only road that
should be named after Bush is one that leads off a cliff (or a dead end road.

4. Thanks!
Maybe I'll use that phrase in my LTTE.

What gets me is that this Republican legislator would do this in the face of W's dissing New Haven all these years. Methinks she doesn't care that much for New Haven because it is so strongly blue, and wants to rub it in. Well, the Dems have a majority in the state legislature so let's hope the "W" highway truly goes nowhere.
