White House Says North Korea Must Make First Move
White House Says North Korea Must Make First Move
VOA News
05 Sep 2003, 18:10 UTC

The Bush administration has called on North Korea to make the first move toward resolving their nuclear dispute.

A White House spokesman Friday said nothing can happen until North Korea changes its behavior and starts to dismantle its nuclear weapons program. He said no U.S. concessions will be offered until Pyongyang demonstrates that it is serious about giving up its nuclear ambitions.

A day earlier, the administration delivered a veiled warning to North Korea, saying the reclusive communist nation will face unspecified "consequences" if it makes good on its reported threat to test a nuclear device. Pyongyang has yet to confirm or deny it made that threat, but U.S. officials continue to insist that it did.

For its part, North Korea warned Friday that if the United States attacks, then Pyongyang will respond in a merciless way. During talks in Beijing last week, the North said it would disarm if Washington resumed free oil shipments, signed a non-aggression treaty and opened diplomatic relations.

3. Haven't they learned anything yet?
The "diplomacy" of these idiots consists primarily of making demands. Worked really well with Europe, didn't it? Of course, if the demands don't work, then a campaign of insults and blame will ensue (freedom frries, etc.), invariably resulting in embarassment for the US, and failure to achieve any goals.

12. I think war is likely :-(
Bush is pushing us towards war. I am at a loss for words in describing how much pity I feel for this nation.

I fear the following will happen as follows (just a hunch):

1) We refuse any concessions and try to intimidate North Korea.

2) North Korea tells Shrub to shove it up where the sun don't shine.

3) North Korea conducts a nuclear test.

4) Rummy decides to bomb ther Yong`byon nuclear reactor.

5) North Korea bombards Seoul and launches massive attack on South Korea. 30,000-60,000 U.S. troops perish within the hour.

6) We attack North Korea.

7) North Korea, near total collapse, nukes Tokyo, Osaka, Honolulu and 1 or (many?) more cities on the West Coast.

8) Dubya nukes North Korea and radiation sickness engulfds East Asia. :evilfrown:

Isn't Bush foreign policy great? (sarcasm off) :eyes:

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

13. same disconnect
Yet they had a "high placed State Department official" saying the US was prepared to be more flexible. Of course any news person or dumbell following the news would know that Bushco is afraid of flexibility AND trashes any of their own, especially the Sate Dept.! who tries to act rational. Immediately, the blowhards shot down this hope.

Like Bush reaching out to the UN. Nothing different there at all. Trying to bludgeon wheedle and bribe others to do Bushco's will. THEY CAN'T CHANGE. THEY WON'T CHANGE. Do these reporters only read and believe their own headlines? Even so, the contradictory facial egg of the past years has continually tried to drum in the lesson of what this administration is doing- to no avail. Short attention span, wishful thinking, out of touch and plain stupid. Ready to repeat the next assertion like the blushing bride in "The Taming of the Shrew".
