115. I'd approve of his resignation.
You know, if for instance he was overwhelmed by a fit of guilt for having assumed an office to which he was not elected. But no, I don't expect him to do that or anything else of which I'd approve. That's why I voted against him.

That said, I'd have felt a little better if he had approved someone at least mildly competent. Powell, for example, was that at least.

Hard to believe that anyone would reward the gross incompetence of Ms. Rice. She's a joke abroad and not much better here at home. However, considering that 59 million Americans chose to endorse failure, it would not surprise me at all to see her confirmed.

Why are there no Republicans who gag at the thought of Condi, the Incompetent, continuing on?

Bush Chooses Rice to Replace Powell

Nov 15, 6:49 PM (ET)

By TOM RAUM

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush has chosen national security adviser Condoleezza Rice to replace Colin Powell as secretary of state in his second term, a senior administration official said Monday.

Powell, a retired four-star general who often clashed with more hawkish members of the administration on Iraq and other foreign policy issues, resigned in a Cabinet exodus that promises a starkly different look to President Bush's second-term team.

The White House on Monday announced Powell's exit along with the resignations of Education Secretary Rod Paige, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. Stephen Hadley, deputy national security adviser, will replace Rice, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Obviously, we can see that SecState will not be a priority position for this administration in the next 4 years. She'll probably be moving her office into Rumsfield's secretarial pool.

She is a definite step down from Powell, and that's not saying much.
Powell "almost" had a renegade thought, on occasion--but promptly stepped back in line like a good little soldier, and goose-stepped to the BFEE tune.
She didn't do her job at NSA, so they decided to promote her. That is the way big business works--promote incompetence--and Bushie always said he wanted to run the country like a business.
She will definitely NEVER step out of line (for them)

Expert on Russia & Loves Everything about George Bush
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 11:31 PM by alank
First the good news: Rice's academic expertise is on Russian politics, which may come in handy now that Putin is starting to reverse democratic reforms in Russia, while Bush has befriended him and so far has been looking the other way. Maybe she can help reverse that ugly trend in Putin's autocratic and dictatorial-leaning regime before it becomes a serious international problem.

Now the really good news if your name is George W. Bush or if you are a big fan of his (bad news for all others): A blindly loyal, inward looking Secretary of State who loves everything about George Bush, prayer sessions at the office and football as much as he does. A right wing hard-liner whose thinking lines up perfectly with Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Bush. Nirvana at last!

Wild Rice

By Al Kamen
Friday, April 23, 2004; Page A21

There's continuing buzz over a comment national security adviser Condoleezza Rice made at what was apparently an off-the-record Washington power dinner with New York Times Publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. and other Timespeople at the home of Washington bureau chief Philip Taubman.

Rice, according to an account in this week's New York magazine, at one point said: "As I was telling my husb . . . " then stopped and said, "As I was telling President Bush. . . ."

Makes one wonder if that secretary of state job has underlying connotations now that I recall this article.

Is Condi Dubya's Freak of the Week? Or are both Laura and Dubya sharing Condi's company?

You know if Dubya has to travel overseas, he has to take a Secretary of State along. She can be secretary, and so much more...

(but oh gawd, the thought of her and Dubya making bacon....)

“I don’t remember the al Qaeda cells being something that we were told we needed to do something about."

Condoleezza Rice - April, 2004 to 9/11 Commission

Also remember, she won the tug-of-war with Rumsfeld for the job of overseeing postwar Iraq. Just one big, red-white-and-blue, star-spangled, super-dee-dooper, bang-up, world-class job she's done there, too, 'eh?

Maybe she'll bring back the Cold War, and the Soviet Union so she can deal with them. That's her specialty, after all. Our new Secretary of State has expertise that's completely obsolete.

As stated at the top of this thread - God Help Us All...

Bush really did learn something in business school afterall. It's the corporate way: hopelessly ineffective functionary gets promoted.
"Who would ever believe someone would fly planes into a building?" Well, You, Condileeza. You've been briefed on that scenario at least twice.
What was the name of the report given to you by the Clinton administration?
"Bin Laden to Attack within the United States."
Unbelievable.

If anyone calls her on her incompetence, they will be accused of racism and sexism, and "prove" that Democrats are hypocritical about civil rights, whereas George W is a true progressive....

As SoS, if anyone tells her to stick her beloved Chimperor's nazi policies up her ass, it will be said that they ONLY say so because they are racist and sexist. Those silly Europeans, they just pretend to be progressive, but they really hate women and minorities -- not like Dubya, who is their true champion.

If I were a fucking Senator, I would sacrifice my career to call her on this bullshit during the confirmation hearing. The Dems cave to this bullshit all the time! but, mark my words, other world leaders will not....

70. It's the Peter Principle at work.
(LINK)

From Link:
The Peter Principle is a theory originated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter which states that employees within a hierarchical organization advance to their highest level of competence, are then promoted to a level where they are incompetent, and then stay in that position.

This follows from the use of promotion as a reward for success. As long as a person is competent in his current position, he will be promoted to the next higher one. By iteration, the only way a person can stop being promoted is to reach a level where he is no longer able to do well, and thus does not appear eligible for promotion.

Actually I think Condi surpassed her maximum level when she became NSA.

150. unfortunately DU is not truly progressive...
Great political discussion here is almost always marred by clueless and ignorant sexist remarks. As far as Rice... I understand the person who said that there is something about her that they do not like. She is being rewarded for displaying the most important quality in this administration; loyalty. She has never exhibited an independent thought that has strayed from the Bush talking points and is really more of a P.R. person than anything else. I don't think that Democrats should hesitate to attack her merely because she is an African American Woman. She is a horrible partisan hack. Powell was a good soldier much of the time but he publicly disagreed with the resident many times. Rice never has or will, she is as non independent as they come. As far as her looks or if they are having an affair...who cares about that? She is a horrible choice for Secretary of State, bottom line.

When she was ringing me up, she asked if there was anything else I wanted. I said - "maybe a new president..." and she butted in immediately with "a new president, a new secretary of state..." And this was a civilian. Not one of us here. This woman was almost literally sick at heart. Told me we all need to pray, pray hard, and keep praying.

Frankly, this is one of those times where I wonder, quite seriously, what the point of praying is. Seems like Nobody's home up there anymore.

129. So when does the purge redux
begin at the State Department? All those who don't agree must now go ala the CIA! Rancid Rice is unquestionably put in this position to challenge Rummy The Dummy for dollars.

She is an empty carbohydrate!

should'nt he pick someone older, wiser, with a lot of diplomatic experience????

I can't see how anyone can bare to watch hardball anymore. Mathews is just another Republican megaphone these days. Back to his old routine I guess.

I can't believe how badly MSNBC has become FoxNewsLite.

Andrea Mitchell
Pat Buchanaan
Joe Scarborough

And now Mathews is officially in their pocket.

Absolutely disgusting!!!!

Shrill, arrogant, rude, a pathological liar and a complete incompetent. Wouldn't be surprised to see some resignations in the diplomatic corps. Must be nice for her to have all that loyalty to her "husband" finally pay off. :puke:

The CIA and our intelligence infrastructure are falling apart, thanks to Porter Goss. Now, our foreign policy's going to hell in a handbasket.

I guess the only thing even more devastating than having Rice as SecState is making her SecDef.

Can anyone here say Condi Lewinsky? He got his Babe in there...Don't you remember when she referred to him as HER HUSBAND?
Get real ! She is more to him than an advisor. Remember the old slave Master..Well we don't remember but we saw Roots. She is the other woman or the woman....Pickles is too zombied out to notice.

The reason it's Condi is that she channels *, and does what he want's done. She doesn't present opposing viewpoints, she knows what he wants to hear. The whole * inner circle is enamoured with the NeoCon's vision of American Hedgmony over the world.

Cheyney, Rice, Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, From, and a whole slew of others directly around * are NeoCons, a movement heavily influenced by the teachings of Leo Strauss. http://home.earthlink.net/~karljahn/Strauss.htm . Strauss taught that there should be an "elite" to "guide" the masses. Religion was very useful to control the masses, but the "elite" were above all that. Power is everything. And if the "Right" people have the power, then all will be good.

Expect a complete housecleaning of professional State employees from the top ranks of the Dept. jast as we are seeing in the CIA.

159. It's truly amazing that someone who PERJURED themselves
on a live, worldwide television broadcast of the 9/11 hearings is still not in prison.

It's back to the 40's, the 1840's that is, and Manifest Destiny rides again. I hear Condi does a superb Hattie McDaniel impersonation!

I knew in my gut she would be Powell's replacement. I guess I still have a bit of naivete left, though - the speed of the announcement was shocking to me. I'm not sure I felt this bad November 3.

so please, go over to events & activism and sign that petition re the appointment of Gonzalez, they've cleaned it up and taken care of the e-mail 's showing. It's fixed. Your e-mail won't show.

National Security? He's either going to bring in some brass from the military or let me guess...I don't know, Guiliani? Nay. No, it's going to be someone with a background and education similar to Condi's and whoever it is, will be like a Mengele, totally loyal.

Any thoughts?

This is getting pretty scary people.

172. Rice is useless
Rice is the woman who was in charge of our security when the worst attack on our county goes down.

Which leads me to believe that she is criminally incompetent or worse. I'm leaning toward worse.

And our dear leader (who was NEVER elected) promotes her.

Sieg heil.
