6. Ditto on the despising - but.....
Based on what we have seen so far from this administration, his replacement will just be worse!

8. I agree
What scares me is the possibility that these folks are resigning because they realize now even they won't be RW enough for Bush's second term! Good God, I don't want to even think about what the next four years will be like.

18. Surprisingly, my husband (who voted for *) was happy about this too
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 12:59 PM by DesertedRose
But I told him to refrain from rejoicing until we find out who the replacement is....He agreed with me.

(Maybe I am FINALLY getting through to him!)

30. Yea well, now it's payoff time. Out with one energy industry stoolie
and in with a new one. I imagine ole Spence has a very high paying "thank you" job waiting for him. Leaving the private sector and living on a public servants wage for too long can be injurious to ones portfolio. Spencer's done his job...he's rent asunder the department he was charged with running..cemented sweet heart deals for his future employers..now it's time for him to reap his rewards.

21. I pity poor Wisconsin.
And I pity us. You know that the scumbags Bush is going to nominate are going to be ten times WORSE than the scumbags that are bailing out of this administration. You think the past four years were bad? Man, what 'til you see what the next four bring. Yikes. :scared:

10. Any ideas as to where Abraham will resurface?
He knew NOTHING about energy when he was appointed.

My guess: lobbyist for the oil industry.

I wonder if Bush could appoint His Royal Highness Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to be energy secretary. That would work, wouldn't it?

25. don't see why it wouldn't work
AFAIK, there're no citizenship requirements for cabinet members, and as past experience has demonstrated for this administration, no experience is required either. It would require senate confirmation, but as we've seen that doesn't seem to be too difficult to get.

Just joking - really. I expect some Texan with petroleum ties to get the nod. After all, Kenny Boy's not doing anything right now...

OK, i'll stop before I depress myself even more

22. they're both gone
Veneman was something of a surprise. It's a thankless job, nobody liked her, but she wasn't particularly political and she did a pretty good job, IMO. OTOH, she's a Republican, so screw her.

All I can think is that SOME major GOP donor disliked her enough to get her fired.

Good riddance to that nut Paige. Teachers are terrorists, indeed.

23. Actually, Abraham is one of the more decent guys in the Cabinet
Not that I don't like Debbie Stabenow, but one of the key reasons Abraham lost his race for re-election to the Senate from Michigan a few years back is because anti-immigration groups targeted his seat. He had a record of being a moderate and as Republicans go, this guy is one of the better ones.

26. OK, here is MY theory on Ole Spence
Even though we share the last name (no relation) I have never thought much of him. He was wrong for choice as Energy Sec. He is conflicted, as mentioned, by the immigration issue. He was sought out by Arab groups to voice their concerns, but I don't think these groups noticed much change. I don't think most Michigan Arabs care for him and they are turning their backs on the Repub Party as of late. I have a Repub cousin in politics here. He recently held a fundraiser for the Party, appealing to voters on behalf of Repub/Arab candidates. Only about 100 showed up.
