Saboteurs bomb oil pipeline, northern wells ablaze (Kirkuk)
KIRKUK (AFP) - Saboteurs blew up a section of an oil pipeline in the northern region of Kirkuk, while flames raged in four oil wells after a string of bombings the previous day, officials said.

The secondary pipeline carrying oil to refineries in the city of Baiji was bombed at around 3:00 am (0000 GMT) about 60 kilometres (37 miles) west of Kirkuk, said police officer Sahim Mohammed.

The attack triggered a huge blaze, but firefighters kept away because rebels had warned of dire consequences if they intervened, he said.

Hitting Iraq (news - web sites) where it hurts the most, attackers detonated four bombs near oil wells in Al-Khabbaza oil field near Kirkuk on Sunday. Flames were still burning fiercely on Monday, said a security officer for oil installations.

1. Allawi is going to cry. Less money to rob from the Iraqi Oil Trust
All these oil pipeline attack articles always mention how vital it is that the oil money keeps going into the oil trust. Since the start of the invasion all money in that trust has been stolen by the CPA and now Allawi, why should the Iraqis want any more of their oil money going into that trust.

8. This is the Iraqi's response
More power to them. I'd do the same if these bastards were in my backyard raping my land and robbing me blind.

5. this counts as a war crime in Bushco's book
check out his priorities in his major address, on the eve of war:

http://www.state.gov/p/nea/rls/rm/18789.htm

And all Iraqi military and civilian personnel should listen carefully to this warning. In any conflict, your fate will depend on your action. Do not destroy oil wells, a source of wealth that belongs to the Iraqi people. Do not obey any command to use weapons of mass destruction against anyone, including the Iraqi people. War crimes will be prosecuted. War criminals will be punished. And it will be no defense to say, "I was just following orders."

7. Setting fire to wells takes the oil war to a whole new level, IMHO.
Well fires destroy the resource for which we are fighting the Iraq War, at least to a great extent. Pipeline bombings shut down exports, but leave the resource intact.

If this should spread to the southern oil fields, which have more oil and shorter pipelines, it will be interesting to see which hawks suddenly lose interest in the war.

The Saudis had better step up security around their wells. Fires have been known to jump all kinds of walls and borders.

I wonder how many of *'s cronies will be willing to battle well fires in the midst of gun battles.
