(James) Dobson shifts power to focus on the politics ("Thank you, Lord!")
The program was titled "Moral Victory in America."

James Dobson, founder of Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family, thanked the Lord for saving the nation from a Kerry presidency. He recited a Psalm he admires. It was a very good day.

The child psychologist and influential voice of conservative moral values had a lot riding on the election of 2004.

Earlier this year, he founded a new group, Focus on the Family Action, to concentrate squarely on politics. He endorsed a presidential candidate for the first time: George W. Bush. He barnstormed the country stumping for conservative Republican Senate candidates.

But in one of his first radio broadcasts after Election Day, Dobson was not ready to celebrate. He was livid that centrist Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, in line to become chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, had declared the Senate unlikely to approve anti-abortion judges.

1. Child Psychologist!?
Yes, I know the letters behind his name.

But in fact, he advocates child abuse.

No. 2: The spanking may be too gentle. If it doesn’t hurt, the child won’t be motivated to avoid the consequence the next time. “Be sure the child gets the message,” Dr. Dobson says, “while being careful not to go too far.”

( and who determines "too far" ,Good Doctor??)

2. But he cautions parents not to spank before 15 months of age...
It scares me to think of what parents might deem "acceptable" after reading some of his "parenting" guidelines.

16. The Bible praise the lord
No I am not being fascitoious here, from his point of view you can also hit your wife with a reed at thick as your thumb, not thicker, just as thick.

See this is what these sickos want... theocracy in action for ya

I know you know this, but still we need to be reminded from time to time where they get guidance from (and yes the bible has some very important sectiosn they seem to ignore such as Though shall not lie, or though shall not covet your neighbors wife... or for that matter though shall not put others before me)

19. James "Spanky Booty" Dobson
Sounds like a good nickname for him, right?

It might be fun to get a bunch of "spankos" (spanking "fetishists") to show up at his talks.

3. Guess it was too much to hope that his stroke would put the fear of God...
...in him. To get the real deal on Dobson, Google "Gil Alexander-Moegerle", his first co-host, whom Dobson screwed royally when he (Dobson) was feeling jittery about anything that could conceivably make him look bad. (something he has in common with *).

Excerpt from Gil's book:
http://www.pinn.net/~sunshine/book-sum/dobson.html
"With that as background, allow me to turn to one of the most unusual beliefs to which Dobson ascribes, one I believe to be highly relevant to an understanding of the man now leading the religious right. Nazarenes are part of what is called "The Holiness Movement," an approach to Christianity that includes several small denominations and which teaches that, subsequent to the dramatic experience of being born again, an adherent should have yet another dramatic crisis experience on yet another day and time that one remembers forever. This crisis is called "Entire Sanctification" or the "Second Work of Grace," and as a result of it one's ability to sin is eradicated - removed - exorcised by the instantaneous work of the Holy Spirit. James Dobson believes that he has been entirely sanctified, morally perfected, that he does not and cannont sin. Now you know why he and moralists like him make a life of condemning what he believes to be the sins of others. He is perfect." p. 98

"I mention all of this not to randomly criticize Nazarenes but because I'm convinced that this holiness issue is pivotal to your understanding of James Dobson. It is part of the reason he is so fiercely disliked by those who differ with his politics, his view of society and moral issues. It is why widespread disdain for him manifests itself in phrases like "Dobson is a moral elitist. He is an intolerant do-gooder." It is why, for example, during the recent Proposition Two campaign in Jim's home state of Colorado, a move to ban laws protecting the rights of gay men and lesbians, bumper stickers appeared in Colorado Springs that read "Focus On Your Own Damn Family!". Americans instinctively distrust and dislike holier-than-thous moralists like Jim." p. 100

7. Thanks for the juicy info, JHB
Jeez, this is scary stuff! Is he even part of the human race?

My sins are removed? That sounds like a sales slogan or some new diet pill which promises to rid me of 25 pounds while I sleep. No effort involved. Of course, I might have pure speed coursing through my veins, shortening my life span by about 10 years, but who cares?

They're all confused, delusional people. And they pawn themselves off as being "religious". It's the blind leading the blind.

4. why doesn't he think God is inflaming his pancreas?
why doesn't he take his digestive difficulties as a message from God, why does he suddenly get all reality-based when it comes to his internal organs?

But all the campaigning took its toll. Dobson was hospitalized five days last week with an inflamed pancreas, which he attributes in part to his heavy workload.

8. I used to work for a boss who sent Dobson's newsletters around
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 01:03 PM by LizW
for us to read. I never actually read them, but I assume they instructed us how to "focus" on our families.

Of course, the same boss insisted that we all work in the office until 6:30 every night and at least half a day on Saturdays. When we pointed out that our children's daycares closed at 6:00, he suggested that we hire nannies to keep the children in our homes so we could work later. He pointed out a couple of women he knew who had two shifts of baby sitters so they could work as long as they needed to.

The hypocrisy of it all never really seemed to become clear to him.

20. the pastor of the church I use to attend
would talk about family time, alone time, quality time, ect. Then he would list of all types of meetings, and gatherings going on at the church. I was pushed to join one and couldn't get there on time. I called him and said I would not be there, he asked why not and I said I couldn't get home and see my family and still get there on time. He said just come from work! I almost dropped the phone. I didn't go cuz it felt more like we were putting on performances for one another, showing up at all these events, witnessing or whatever. It was more like adding up the numbers of people attending and then publishing it and then we were such a good church.

I believe in God and I don't think God is the problem. The problem is religion and these nuts. All the man-made stuff that separates us from one another. If these nuts believe in God, then they must believe He is not threatened by a homosexual or Muslim or Jew. Why do they think we have to kill them or hurt them cuz of God. I think He is capable of protecting Himself if he feels threatened by them.

Maybe we need to sit down and figure these people out the best we can. Maybe that is the only way we will be able to defeat them. Believe in God or nonbelievers ... face that they are a major obstacle to our democracy and try to understand so we can figure out how to stop them? I don't know. They scare me though.

10. I'm with you on this one, get this man on the air.
I had an image of him as someone like Charles Stanley, who is somewhat gentle spoken and benign in appearance; however, I saw JD on the Daily Show and he scared the hell out of me, he was one of those "seething with rage inside" christians I remember so fondly from growing up in rural VA.

11. Please note: he is NOT a PASTOR!!!
His degrees are in child psychology.

People have, IMHO, paid way too much attention to this guy. He has no theological degree or training that I am aware of, and yet people proclaim his stuff as "ministry."

His roll-over on politics portrays his true agenda. He is closely aligned with the PNACs.

I hope the feds look carefully at his tax-exempt status. Because his name is heavily associated with his "ministry," I cannot see how his technically resigning as head of ministry but remaining on its board absolves him of his political campainging.

I found the article interesting, especially these two statements:

"I believe what we have just experienced is not an end to the struggle, but a respite," Dobson said in an interview with The Denver Post. "If the Republicans do what they've done in the past, which is to say, 'Thanks so much for putting us in power, now we don't want to talk to you anymore,' they will pay a severe price in four years and maybe two."

"I don't believe George Bush is ever going to say things in the way we would like for him to," Dobson said. "But he has made the right choices when it matters. I believe he will continue to do so. I'm confident President Bush knows who was responsible for this election victory. I don't believe he will arrogantly disregard them."

Just wait until shrub crosses him.

You all need to start referring to him by his proper title. He is most certainly not a pastor or minister.

15. Bush has Dobson's support
until he does something that Dobson doesn't like. I eagerly wait for that day:evilgrin: Dobson has the practice of using his radio program to rile his followers up..he'll give the office phone numbers of the parties he wants to intimidate on the air and encourage the listeners to call and make their opinions known. And hoards of them obediently do it- tying up switchboards for days on end and pushing until Dobson gets his way. It seems he always does too. As a follower of Jesus, I hate this type of thing with a passion, but I have to admit I will be positively gleeful to see Dobson's fury unleashed on Bush. And believe me it *will* happen...both men are egomaniacs. Can't wait for the fireworks!!

14. hearing the right talk about "moral values" cracks me up.
their ranks are filled with thieving adulterers who make the pharisees look humble. they preach a gospel in direct contrast to the one jesus preached. and their purpose is not to save or convert those they consider in the wrong, but to punish and harm them.

they make me sick to my stomach.

"treat each child with dignity and respect (unless they are fags)"

"we all deserve the right to equality and happiness (except for the fags)'

yeah, right. so we have called our local cbs radio affiliate KNX Los Angeles and complained as well as sending letters to sponsors who appear right before and right after his broadcasts.

25. I read the book, "Dobson's War on America' by Gil Moerle
(not sure I spelled Gil's name right). Loved it. Recommend heartily, along with Rob Boston's "Pat Robertson - the Most Dangerous Man in America." Both books helped me to understand them a bit better. I say 'a bit,' because there doesn't seem to be a logical pattern to their behavior, even when you take their financial and religious beliefs and practices into account.

But, I digress ...

I think maybe Dobson is the most dangerous man in America now ... because he wants to control each and every one of us! And the only one who is going to spank this 45-year-old is my hubby - during fun & games, of course.
