Nader staffer: N.H. recount 'is on'

Nader staffer: N.H. recount 'is on':

Ralph Nader has followed his request for a recount of selected New Hampshire precincts with a $2,000 filing fee and a promise to pay the cost of the process, and expects a hand recount of selected wards to begin soon, according to campaign spokesman Kevin Zeese.

"We're on -- the check and promise to pay have been delivered," Zeese wrote in an email timestamped 5:05 p.m., in response to an inquiry. "The state was asked to start asap -- they will let us know next week."

An accompanying press release noted that Nader had received "more than 2000 faxes from citizens concerned about the vote count who urged the campaign to request a hand recount in New Hampshire."

The recount will begin in areas where the vote favored President Bush in anomalous ways.

2. Nader should stick to doing things like this
instead of playing spoiler for the Republicans. This is what he's really good at. I will never trust Nader again, but if he goes on doing this kind of work, I will hate him less.

Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 04:49 PM by HFishbine
It's the candidates who have the right to request the recounts. If Nader hadn't been "playing spoiler for the Republicans," he would be as helpless as you or I.

48. Nader wouldn't be a spoiler if we had a better voting system
Like instant runoff voting, for example. You vote for your preferences and in each round the person with the least number of votes is kicked out and the votes they received go to the next preference on the voters' ballots. That way you could vote Nader 1st and Kerry 2nd knowing that Nader doesn't have much of a chance but still voting for him without spoiling.

I swear, Nader isn't the bad guy so many think he is. I've held silent on my opinions of him, until now. Everything he has said makes sense to me. I had to vote Gore and Kerry. I couldn't let the Chimp in. But he kicked the door down and got in anyways.

Go Ralph, GO!

43. Running for president on his ego? Well it seems like the Democratic
party had plenty of those people running in the primary this year. The Republican party certainly doesn't corner the market on political opportunists.

is this a good thing, this recount? if so, why? (feel free to keep it simple, i like simple 8-)

39. Oh, my God! That picture scares the living eff out of me! LOL!
The NH recounts are significant because the exit polls on election night showed Kerry up two digits and then when the final call came, he won by 1%! That is a huge difference! The recounts will show discrepencies in the fact that the ballots will be counted by hand instead of by machines. The recount will be final. So, if there are large numbers favoring Bush on election night and the recounts show that Bush didn't actually win by a big margin, i.e, machines giving him a lot of votes, then this will lead to more recounts in Florida and Ohio! NH is good because it is a state where Kerry won and won't have the media on Kerry or Nader's back about trying to change the critical swing states.

This is how I think I understood the whole thing to be.

11. I love this!
Suddenly it all makes sense - the closed-door meeting with jkerry early in the campaign where they both were all smiles afterward - the whole idea of running when he knew he would get only a fraction of the votes he got in 2000 -

Maybe this is his real purpose for running... Ralph is in so much better a position to contest this stuff than Kerry...

Could the powers for good possibly have been as clever and as forward thinking as the Republicans?

14. you nailed it
nader and kerry met all hush-hush near the beginning of the campaign. nader's defining role is that of "consumer advocate" and we are all consumers of an electoral process that is performing illogically. he's going to be the driving force behind a recount process that will work with the puzzle of the electoral college to bring the REAL results of the election to light before the electoral college casts its vote.

we won most of the states; the southern states all lied about their results, and most early votes have not been counted yet. DECEMBER 13 IS WHEN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE MEETS. KERRY'S "CONCESSION" IS NOT LEGALLY BINDING, AND HIS "PHONE CALL" IS NOT A WRITTEN CONTRACT. JOHN KERRY WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Only a Skull and Bones person can outdo another Bonesman in the craftiness game. now we know what kind of President Bush we can look forward to if we don't fight with the team of three lawyers and a billionaire we hired with our tiny little contributions over this year.

FIGHT ON UNDERGROUND!!!!

Why would it be better for him to contest the fraud than Kerry?

Should we be supporting him or the other third party candidates to contest it in other states? $2,000 is chicken feed or is that only NH?

16. Green & Libertarian Presidential Candidates to Demand Ohio Recount
<< 11/11 - David Cobb and Michael Badnarik, the 2004 presidential candidates for the Green and Libertarian parties, today announced their intentions to file a formal demand for a recount of the presidential ballots cast in Ohio.

"Due to widespread reports of irregularities in the Ohio voting process, we are compelled to demand a recount of the Ohio presidential vote. Voting is the heart of the democratic process in which we as a nation put our faith. When people stand in line for hours to exercise their right to vote, they need to know that all votes will be counted fairly and accurately. We must protect the rights of the people of Ohio, as well as all Americans, and stand up for the right to vote and the right for people's votes to be counted. The integrity of the democratic process is at stake," the two candidates said in a joint statement.
The candidates also demanded that Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican who chaired the Ohio Bush campaign, recuse himself from the recount process. >>

<< The Ohio presidential election was marred by numerous press and independent reports of voter intimidation, mis-marked and discarded ballots, problems with electronic voting machines and the targeted disenfranchisement of African American voters. A number of citizens’ groups and voting rights organizations are holding hearings this Saturday in Columbus, Ohio to investigate voting irregularities and voter suppression in the Ohio 2004 general election. The hearings will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the New Faith Baptist Church, 955 Oak Street. Voters, poll workers, journalists and voting experts are invited to testify. A second hearing will be held on Monday at a location TBA, from 6-9 p.m.

The Cobb and Badnarik campaigns are in the process of raising the required fee, estimated at $110,000, for filing for a complete recount. . The campaigns are accepting contributions through their websites. The Cobb-LaMarche website is www.votecobb.org. >>

http://www.votecobb.org

Really GREAT site about all of this - how about a complete recount in Ohio? Huh? Sounds DAMN GOOD TO ME!

Donate if you can - they are trying to raise $150,000 by Monday - so far its is at ~$71,000 so far.

18. you know, I wondered...
When I read the transcript of John Kerry's concession speech, several days before I had heard any talk of any fraud, one part seemed a little strange to me:

"Audience member: We still got your back!

Thank you, man. And I assure you – you watch – I'll still have yours."

Perhaps he knew all along? Maybe I'm just overanalyzing, but that continues to stick out in my mind.

21. I heard Ralph on the Ed Shultz show today
I liked a lot of what I heard (and I am NO Nader fan, to put it mildly), but he did say that the Dem leadership is silent on this issue because they hope to benefit from fraudulent machines in other states. WTF? The Dems are spineless, but to even put them in the same league as this evil administration is beyond the pale. Of course he's been doing that for a long time....

25. New Hampshire Telegraph Interesting story
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 08:43 PM by lovuian
http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041106/NEWS02/111060040/-1/news

Two years ago, the commission agreed to go forward with a recount for a legislative seat after a losing candidate tried to fax a copy of the check to pay for the recount.

Secretary of State Bill Gardner said a Nader official told him the campaign tried to fax a copy of the check to pay for the recount but it jammed.

“If they appeal, it’s up to the Ballot Law Commission to settle this,’’ Gardner said.

Fitch said he had been in contact with Nader campaign officials throughout Friday to inform them of the recount requirements.

In the request, Nader said he wants either a full recount or a “statistically significant sample audit’’ of these vote counts.

I'm so glad they are going to count the votes!!!

Is it me or is it obvious New Hampshire was reluctant to do this and according to this Its Up to the Ballet Law Commission to settle it

but Ida Briggs said its a GO!!! I am surprised Bush isn't challenging this??? Anyway its an interesting story from the New hampshire paper!!!

28. Nader gets recount in New Hampshire
http://interestalert.com/brand/siteia.shtml?Story=st/sn/11120000aaa00a52.upi&Sys=rmmiller&Fid=NATIONAL&Type=News&Filter=National

The campaign wired its down payment, raised by small donations, to the secretary of state's office Friday.

According to campaign spokesman Kevin Zeese, the recount will not be statewide; it will cover only 11 counties and a total of 45,000 votes.

The campaign is responsible for demonstrating that it will be able to pay the total cost of the recount. Zeese said that the secretary of state's office had not yet asked them to explain how they were planning to pay for the vote recount.

Its interesting how Nader is getting the Recount but the Newspapers leave that opening of how he is going to pay for it!!! So glad Grace stepped in to help out!!!

30. Boston Globe reports got the check at 4:30PM
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/nader/articles/2004/11/12/state_approves_nader_recount/

Nader asked for a recount in 11 wards last week, but the state initially said no because his request did not include the $2,000 fee. He had until 4:30 p.m. Friday to get the money to the Secretary of State's office.

The fee is required of candidates who lose by more than 3 percentage points. Democrat John Kerry won the state with 50 percent to Bush's 49 percent. Nader had just under 1 percent.

The state agreed to the recount Friday after Nader's campaign electronically transferred the fee Friday afternoon.

Just interested to see how things progressed today!!!

Hand recounts in Litchfield, Sandown, Newton, Danville, Salem, Pelham, one ward in Somersworth and four wards in Manchester

Interesting they are pointing at those counties!!!

Nader's doing this at our request and with money we donated and got donated (Grace!) for him. He's using Ida's wish list, not anything his people developed themselves. This recount is virtually an all-DUer venture.
