Group Seeks Union Election Spending Probe
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 03:24 PM by khephra
WASHINGTON -- An anti-union group is urging the Federal Election Commission to investigate one of the largest unions in the country, claiming the Service Employees International Union unlawfully spent workers' dues to elect Democrats in last week's election.

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation said Wednesday that SEIU gave millions of dollars from members' dues to a partisan political group, America Coming Together, which in turn spent the money illegally to finance political campaigns through the Democratic National Committee.

The foundation complained that dues are required as a condition of union membership and cannot be spent on political campaigns.

"SEIU officials used the hard-earned wages of rank-and-file workers to bankroll the campaigns of hundreds of political candidates across America," said the foundation's president, Stefan Gleason. The group opposes mandatory union dues and provides free legal representation for members with allegations of union abuse.

1. Yes and my state rep is a co-sponsor of right-to-work legislation in PA
and we had a former union pres as a candidate and got $1K from the county and $0 from the state dems

($500 from CWA and endosed/mailing from UAW)

With $4000 we got over 7,000 votes.

We reversed a negative trend of local candidates who just played nice and carried the party platform banner and didn't go toe-to-toe on the issues.

But with $4K, reversing a trend with footwork and campaigning isn't bad.

But if the rep gets away with right-to-work legislation, can't say we didn't try.

3. Unions should demand churches be investigated
The churches are the biggest violators of campaign finance laws and IRS violations.
