Defeat of anti-brothel measure 'surprising'
Now remember "faith" and "values" took the vote in red states, correct? It's time to take a closer look at those very same voters and see how fucked up their values really are. Exploitation and taxation of female sex workers is a good value, correct? We need to get to know thy enemy if we ever expect to defeat them. oh, and btw, for those of you who don't remember, Fallon is a Naval Air Station community, where the current Top Gun is stationed.

FALLON -- The two people most surprised by the resounding defeat of an anti-brothel measure in Churchill County were the leaders on both sides of the issue.

Question 3, which sought to ban prostitution in the rural county, was defeated by a 2-to-1 margin in Tuesday's election. In 1974, county voters supported letting two brothels operate outside Fallon.

4. Why the shock?
Most Christians are hypocritcal bigots - - and their Bible helps them to justify their attitude. Then there's the whole group of people who aren't Christians but who simply use the Christian argument to ban something they just don't like (gay marriage).

5. The church-going men need somewhere to go to screw around...
...without their wife knowing. But a loving, committed gay couple can't get married.

9. maybe the military vote?
If Fallon is Naval Air Station community, my guess is the military would not only be the largest consumers of the sex trade,
but would also be a large voting block.

Do military personell register in the county they're from or where they're stationed?

11. You all forget the beauty of being a Jesus-based Christian!
The ones that I've met, use Jesus as a free pass to do whatever they want... drink, cheat, lie, divorce, be peverse. The churches that are popular out here on the West Coast, preach that the congregation are basically a bunch of losers, a bunch of sinners who fail continually. Jesus died for their sins, so they can pretty much sin all they want, as LONG as they admit what worthless people they are and they love Jesus. Then they are free to sin again, and apologize, and sin.. etc. The idea, should be to NOT sin.. but oh.. they're just so "imperfect"! The most perverted people, the most addicted, have been born-again Christians. It gives them a free pass, in their eyes.

a "sinner" and proud of it but I don't go crying to
some jesus every other week.

12. I think it is really economics
They probably rely a great deal on the taxation of prositution in that county. I think the idea is "a necessary evil."
But it is highly amusing.

13. Nevada isn't values voters
They're anti-liberal voters. Most rural voters that vote Bush are. They think forests are tree farms, the earth is theirs to rule, everybody's broke and it's never going to change, get off their backs and leave them the hell alone. And if you want to get a drink or see a whore, leave them alone there too. Western rural voters and Southern rural voters ARE NOT the same.

14. To the Fundies there is no conflict here.....
"Prostitution in the Bible

Two different kinds of prostitutes are found in biblical stories. First are those who offered to have sex with men to earn money or to get some personal favor. Some women may have become prostitutes as a way to survive when they no longer were under the protection or care of a husband, father, or other family members. Prostitutes wore fancy clothes and jewels to attract men (Ezek 16:8-26). One prostitute named Rahab is best known for helping Joshua’s spies escape from Jericho after they had sneaked into the city (Josh 2).

A second kind of prostitute, often called a “sacred” or “temple” prostitute, was a female or a male who had sex with worshipers of a god or goddess in a temple. Many of these gods or goddesses were thought to make the land and its people fertile. In Canaan, there were pairs of such gods: Baal and Asherah, and later, Osiris and Isis. The prophet Hosea seems to be warning the people of Israel against having sex with temple prostitutes in rituals honoring these Canaanite fertility gods (Hos 4:10-19). Some time later, Judah’s King Josiah (639–609 B.C.) tore down buildings that housed “male prostitutes” (2 Kgs 23:7) who may have served in the worship of Canaanite gods. In the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament), Israel’s unfaithfulness is often compared with being a prostitute or chasing after prostitutes (Isa 23:16; Jer 3:6; Ezek 16; Nah 3:4). In the New Testament, the writer of Revelation calls Babylon, meaning the Roman Empire, a shameless prostitute who tempts people and nations into relations with her (Rev 17).

The Law of Moses (Lev 19:29) forbade prostitution, and those found guilty could be killed by crushing them with stones (Deut 22:21). A priest’s daughter who became a prostitute was to be burned to death (Lev 21:9). No money earned by prostitutes was to be accepted as a gift to the temple (Deut 23:18)."

Better leave man's law out of it......if the Preachers daughter runs off to one of those brothels, they're going to torch her anyway.

of course if they start funding churches or faith based initiatives with federal tax money they better make the brothel business tax exempt as well....

"No money earned by prostitutes was to be accepted as a gift to the temple (Deut 23:18)."

15. only surprising if you swallow the "values" B.S.
the republicans want to think "good" people voted for Bush, because he's "good," and the media is helping the GOP push this spin.

In fact, many of the people that voted for Bush are bad and/or ignorant. This should be obvious to the media, since it's obvious that Bush ran his campaign largely on hatred, bigotry and lies.

But no, I don't think this story about prostitution winning in NV will get a lot of play, because it doesn't fit into the story line.
