Iraq shuts airport, slaps curfew on Fallujah and Ramadi (press conf.)
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 08:02 AM by maddezmom
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi announced he would impose a curfew and other measures under emergency laws on the rebel cities of Fallujah and Ramadi starting at 6:00 pm (1500 GMT).

"I have decided today to implement the security law in Fallujah and Ramadi and the procedure will be carried out after 6 pm today," Allawi told a news conference on Monday.

He also announced that the international airport would be closed to civilian flights for 48 hours.

1. Reuters: Allawi gives green light
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said on Monday he had given U.S. and Iraqi forces the go-ahead to clear the rebel-held city of Falluja of "terrorists."

"I gave my authority to the multinational forces, Iraqi forces. We are determined to clean Falluja from the terrorists."

Allawi said he was imposing a curfew on the rebel-held city and closing Baghdad international airport for 48 hours.

"I have reached the belief that I have no other choice but to resort to extreme measures to protect the Iraqi people from these killers and to liberate the residents of Falluja so they can return to their homes," he told a news conference.

Allawi said Iraqi forces had taken control of Falluja hospital, killing 38 insurgents in the process.

2. Is this guy on drugs?
>>>Allawi said Iraqi forces had taken control of Falluja hospital, killing 38 insurgents in the process.<<<

All the major news outlets are reporting the hospital was taken without a shot. Does this drunk even know what country he is in?

4. info on the Iraqi Special forces that captured the hospital
In the past month, Applegate said he had run a pair of two-week training courses for 138 Shahwanis. The Shahwanis were organised by the Americans over the summer with help from Iraq's intelligence director General Mohammed Shahwani, marine officers said.

Unlike other Iraqi security branches, they are paid directly by the US military, they added.
