Hundreds take to Seattle streets for anti-war protest

SEATTLE About 500 protesters marched through downtown Seattle Saturday. They were venting their frustrations over President Bush's re-election and calling for troops to be pulled out of Iraq.

Some people watching from the sidelines told demonstrators they should quit complaining and accept the will of the voters.

The protest was organized by the anti-war group Not in Our Name. Participants said they felt compelled to air their gripes about Iraq and the leadership of a president they feel does not represent their interests.

There were no reports of any arrests.

22. Congratulations Seattle! - The rest of the world salutes you!!!!
Over here in Oz we've always associated Seattle with Bill Gates,Boeing and "Big US Business". Well done! Keep up the fight-no matter what "The Spectators" say. Remember Boeing and Microsoft only build weapon's systems to kill the rest of the world - not you!!! Tell "The Spectators" that one day we will "Retaliate"!!! Maybe Seattle might be a good start for us!

14. Well I'm here in Seattle and we did not hear that there was to be a
protest. We found out about it on the local news. If we had known we would have been there.

18. There wasn't enough publicity
There were some flyers, but you kind of had to look to find out when the protest would be.

21. No kidding...
I heard some vague report about a protest Saturday, but didn't find out the details until it was already over...

5. Thank you, Seattle!
If I tried to do a protest, I would probably be the only one in my town and then I'd be shot or something like that.

12. Part of coalition doing part of the job
free to be irrelevant again. Bush stole the election!!! Is this business as usual too or is the news ignoring the legitimacy question?

Oh well, free to be pure again. Kerry's extrication was going to be grim work. Now we are free to be dismayed in public.

Washington had a big computer hack issue. The Kerry states too involve that god almighty fraud popular vote margin. Oh well.

13. More "fair & balanced" coverage
"Some people watching from the sidelines told demonstrators they should quit complaining and accept the will of the voters."

These people got nearly as much coverage as the protest itself, about 1/4 of the article.

17. It was more like 2000 people--we were there!
Everythingsxen and I were there along with some friends. There was a really good turnout, and people driving by were honking, waving, and giving us the peace sign. There was only one counter-protester (a guy with a sign and a whistle) and I sure didn't hear any calls to give up!

This is probably going to be a re-run of Viet Nam, only the administration currently in power will have no qualms about being very, very nasty in terms of retribution.

Remember the Chinese and their 'may you live in interesting times' curse?

edit: decided to clean up my last line
