Fight Over Judicial Nominees Will Go On
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 04:16 PM by johnnie
WASHINGTON - In a psychological war of words, Senate Republicans are issuing only slightly veiled threats against their Democratic counterparts if the minority party resuscitates its penchant for blocking President Bush's choices for federal judgeships.

Learn from the election defeat of Minority Leader Tom Daschle, the Republicans say, contending it was Democratic "judicial obstructionism" that led to a variety of GOP victories and Daschle's downfall on Election Day. The not-so-subtle message: Let conservatives have their way when it comes to judicial picks, or you too will face the wrath of voters.

I sure hope the Dems stick to it.

1. It wont matter
They are going to change the Cloture rules so that you cannot phillibuster judges.

Roe V. Wade is gone. period. As is the right to privacy and a ton of worker rights and environmental laws.

3. How can republicans unilaterally change cloture rules?

Other than just saying, we are unilaterally doing this -- how can they change the rules both sides have been operating under?

6. You answered your own question.
They just say We are going to do this. Will you stop them? Will the police stop them? Will the army stop them? Will the Supreme Court stop them?

No.

Democracy is gone. They can now rule by fiat. Why don't you all get this? We'd be so much better off if we lived in reality.

up for reelection reguardless of whether or not they oppose judicial nominees? This doesn't make any sense. They'll do it anyway.

4. I really think Daschle's "downfall" was because...
..of his sickening habit of rim-jobbing the GOP in an attempt to satisfy their calls (phoney) for "Bi-partisanship".

The GOP didn't give a rat's-ass about Bi-partisanship, but if Tom Daschle and Joe Liebermann were willing to kiss Bill Frist's (cat killer) asshole because the GOP asked them to...Well, who wouldn't enjoy a little kinky shit?

How can we impress upon our representatives that we see what the GOP calls "Obstructionism" as fighting for our country?

5. It doesn't matter
Dems have not only lost all power, but they are whimps. If they wanted to obstruct, they should have been doing it for the past 2 years. (Blocking a handful of radicals is not obstruction.) Now, they can just collect their paycheck and enjoy the DC night life.

They are not invited to Senate or House meetings on policy. They are not listened to by the majority. What do you all want? I don't get it.

SCOTUS is conservative now for at least 30 years. Get it through your heads!!!!! Very conservative. Environment, abortion, civil rights, social security, police brutality, free speech, free press, gay rights, church/state seperation, states rights (that's right, a conservative court will NOT give power to the states...they will centralize. They only say states need power when they DON'T have the power), and much more.

Go on. Live your lives. Move to a friendly country. But, beating your heads against the wall with thoughts like "we can change it" and "take our country back" is so empty-headed. It's like you're living in la la land. Wake up.

There will be no effective obstruction of a republican partisan judge by the Democrats.

7. These cynical posts make me laugh ....
ANYONE with an ounce of integrity would find your pessimism an unflailing descent into self pity ....

I'm not going anywhere, and I am not giving up anything ....

A 51 % margin is hardly a mandate, and it is worth our while to FIGHT EVERY STEP OF THE WAY .....

The pusillanimous should just get the fuck out of the way ....

8. The lesson is don't make people from red states party leaders
They take the heat for things they might or might not support.

Making Reid minority leader is repeating the error. Just put Durbin in and be done with it. He couldn't lose if he went to work for his opponent.
