Falluja: City of rebellion
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3235213.stm

>> Falluja - a predominantly Sunni Muslim town 50km (30 miles) west of Baghdad - has emerged as one of the main obstacles to the US and Iraqi governments as they attempt to pacify Iraq.

>>"Falluja is a cancer," said US Maj Gen Richard Natonski, whose 1st Marine Division have massed on the outskirts of the city.

>>"We can't have a sanctuary for the enemy and expect to make progress," he said last week.

>>"It's a rats' nest but if we have to go in and clear it out we will," he added.<<

14. "Paths of Glory"
Some say that this is Kubrick's best work; well, me and at least one other person. Much like what you describe...life imitating art imitating life..?

2. Falluja is NOT 'a cancer'; Its a city of people.
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 01:12 PM by Barkley
People resisting foreign occupation is not carcinogenic.

This de-humanizing people in order to justify slaughtering them is obscene and immoral.

3. A "cancer" - Jesus Christ....
Thinking like that is the wellspring of genocide.

4. Who are they trying to fool with this?
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 12:39 PM by The_Casual_Observer
The rebellion is obviously underground everyplace there. "Conquering" Falluja for at least the second time is as futile as squeezing a balloon in the middle to make it smaller.

10. Violent people always think just a little more violence will cow people
They plan to teach Iraq a lesson by destroying Falluja and everything in it. It will probably just increase the resolve of the resistance.

Bush plans to get into serious killing now, to soften the public up for the war against Iran.

12. ......how many times have we seen this exact scenario?
First the propaganda leaflets. Then the plead to turn in your arms for cash. Then a few more air strikes to incite more fear. Then Allawi announces that this is your last chance. One more time, "We have the place surrounded, no one will escape alive...... BTW we don't negotiate with Terrorist.

5. Fallujah: City of Death
A lot of good men are going to die, and some of the evil ones too. Fallujah isn't a cancer, it's a finger in the eye of the vaunted might of the US military, just as the Warsaw Ghetto was a finger in the eye of the vaunted SS.

The US military has shown the entire world that it is nothing more then a paper tiger. Think about it, the so-called mightiest military in the world, they can't catch a one legged one-eyed dead terrorist, and it seems the only thing they do succeed at is the wanton killing of women and children, with their "precision" bombing.

Heaven forbid if there ever comes a time when the US military will have to fight another military force that has the training and equipment to resist US Imperialism.

As a former soldier and Gulf War vet, I am ashamed.

I'm not sure how many of those troops voted for Bush, but if they did then I have no sympathy for them, because they voted to stay, and to die, or to come back mising pieces.

A cancer, a rats nest, no, Fallujah will be remembered in US military history as the place where death was the only victor, but the Butcher of Iraq will smirk and claim victory. And his generals, like the generals who supported Hitler will nod their heads and agree with what
he says.

My only hope is that like Hitler's generals they receive the same justice for their part in the killing.

6. OMG, we are becoming like the Nazis
We may burn Falluja to the ground and "win" in Iraq, but it won't stop there. It never does. I always talked about how similar what we are doing in Iraq was to what the Nazis did in Europe, but it always came with a footnote that it isn't on as big of a scale. But now we are talking about people as a cancer, an occupied country as a bunch of "desert rats".
And now, all we can do is hold our breath and hope the violence isn't escalated to encompass both the middle east and america.

7. Our military is the cancer
the more appropriate analogy would be the occupiers and invaders play the cancer roll. I hope the patient survives.

15. Yes They Did
And they paid for their arrogance, just like the USMC will pay its arrogance, in blood.
