Bush O.K's Free Trade With Chili...Goodbye American Jobs!
Here comes another big sucking sound as more
jobs are lost to Chile (they make less than $1.00 an hour)

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush signed legislation Wednesday to begin free trade with Singapore and Chile, saying that opening world markets is essential for U.S. prosperity and the spread of freedom.
Bush said he anticipated signing many more free-trade pacts. Negotiations are under way with Australia and Morocco and countries in Central America and southern Africa, he said, and will begin soon with Bahrain and the Dominican Republic.

"We support free trade in America because it is vital to the creation of jobs," Bush said in an East Room ceremony. "It's vital to the success of our economy. Exports accounted for roughly one quarter - one quarter - of our economy's growth in the 1990s," Bush said, repeating a mantra of the Clinton administration.

Critics say the agreements could cost U.S. jobs by giving companies an incentive to move to cheaper labor markets. Bush is sensitive to the jobs issue, going into a re-election campaign with a 2.7 million net job loss during his presidency.

Bush said export-related jobs generally pay better than others and have helped raise standards of living in the United States. "The continued advance of free trade is essential to this nation's prosperity," he said.

3. I was a vegetarian for two months
last spring, but I still haven't had chili since then, even though I couldn't last any longer with that charade.

Chile? Oh yeah, get ready for some more IMF riots and people eating out of garbage cans.

I can hear that job suck sound already.

Edited on Wed Sep-03-03 05:05 PM by goobergunch
CHILE: House passed 270-156, Senate passed 65-32.

SINGAPORE: House passed 272-155, Senate passed 66-32.

Kerry and Lieberman missed both votes. Gephardt and all other presidential candidates were present.
