US launches air strikes on Fallujah

The US military said early on Wednesday it had launched two air raids overnight on the rebel-held Iraqi flashpoint town of Fallujah, but it was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.

The first raid, staged late on Tuesday, targeted an arms stash in the town, located 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

The second raid, early on Wednesday, was aimed at a rebel command post, the military said in a statement.
