Washington Redskins outcome correlates with election winners
ASHBURN, Va. Forget the polls and pundits. The outcome of this year's presidential election may hinge on a little pigskin.

If tradition holds, the next occupant of the White House will be decided today as the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins square off.

Since 1936, the outcome of the Redskins' last home game before the election has correctly predicted the winner of the election.

It goes like this: Every time the Redskins have won, the incumbent party has also won. Likewise, every Washington loss has been matched by a victory by the challenging party.

Those with one syllable names only have a SINGLE term presidency. Go figure!

3. Can anyone tell me what happened in 2000?
Most of these "placemat polls" had Bush as the winner four years ago - we all know what happened then. I believe the Redskins lost this game in 2000.

5. I can't remember who won the game
but I think this Redskins thing only works for incumbant presidents. The legend is - if the Redskins win the last homegame before the election, the incumbant stays in office. The mojo wouldn't have worked in 2000.

Redskins' loss points to Bush departure
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The Washington Redskins lost to the Green Pay Packers and thus, according to a sporting legend that has proved eerily accurate, President George W. Bush (news - web sites) is bound to lose the White House.

The polls may show Bush and his Democratic challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) locked in a dead heat ahead of Tuesday's presidential election, but for those with a taste for omens and superstition, the race was over when the whistle blew on the Redskins' 28-14 defeat.

Since 1936, when the Redskins' franchise moved from Boston to Washington, the American football team's pre-election performance at home has predicted the presidential winner.

The legend surrounding the Redskins' last home game before Election Day is simplicity itself: If they win, the White House incumbent will remain president. If they lose, the incumbent loses.

I kid you not! I read the thread. Seems the Skins lost the Sunday before the '96 election.

Unfortunately for their theory, that was an away game and the tradition is all about the last home game for the skins prior to the election.

The omens and portents are stacked against Bush
Indian Astrologers have predicted a Kerry win because Bush's planet (Saturn) is behind the sun.
The tea leaves have not looked good for team Bush.
Red Sox have beat the curse of the Bambino
Now the Packers have beaten the Redskins on their own turf the weekend before the election.
