Fl U.S. Senate Race: Castor holds lead in poll for second day
For the first time, a weeklong Palm Beach Post/Reuters/Zogby International tracking poll has shown one U.S. Senate candidate with a lead on consecutive days: Democrat Betty Castor.

Castor led Republican Mel Martinez in Saturday's poll 48 percent to 45 percent in the race to replace Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Graham.

It was the first day since the poll began Oct. 24 in which the lead hasn't changed from the previous day. Castor led the previous day's poll 47 percent to 46 percent.

The poll of 600 likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 points.

1. I like Betty's chances
I contend that if Kerry comes anywhere close to winning FL, Castor will win this Senate seat.

There are a few things that will hurt Martinez. I believe that a segment of McCollum's supporters will refuse to vote for him. Martinez ran a despicable primary campaign that turned off many Independents and moderate Republicans.

Secondly, I think a lot of Central/North Florida Republicans will be hesitant to vote for a Hispanic.

I'm pretty confident that, barring a Kerry disaster in the state, Castor will hold the seat for Democrats.

3. North (Rural/Fundie Land) Florida will NOT vote for Martinez.
In 2003, Northern Louisiana (David Duke) Land went for now Governor Blanco (Democrat) over Bobby Jindal (Republican) who is second generation Indian.

I agree that Martinez's ethinicity is going to hurt him with his own right wing base. Ironic, isn't it?

4. the DSCC is running good ads capitalizing on the primary
it quotes a bunch of republicans talking about what a mean spirited campaigner Mel is. Of course, they don't explicitly say that they were talking about his prmary campaign (although they do give the dates).

IMO, they are very effective, especially when they run right after an ad claiming she'll raise our taxes and let terrorists operate freely in our universities.

2. Thanks for this report
We really need a Castor win here in FL. The last thing we need is Graham's seat taken by that idiot Martinez.

5. Betty was at the Kerry rally in Tampa tonight.
And she shone. What a great candidate. I hope she wipes Mel out on Tuesday.

Go, Betty!
