'Papa' Bush jabs at Kerry, hails his sons' performances
PALM BEACH GARDENS — As the plane carrying former President George H.W. Bush and his son Gov. Jeb Bush prepared to land in Palm Beach County on Friday, the elder Bush said he looked out the window and told his son he saw Sen. John Kerry's plane.

"How do you know it's his?" the governor asked.

"It's got two left wings on it," said his dad.

The 41st president, looking healthy and relaxed in a gray suit and rose-colored tie, told the joke during a GOP rally Friday afternoon at the PGA National Resort.

"Papa" Bush, as some referred to the former president, took several good-natured swipes at Kerry during a 20-minute talk in which he praised the governor for his resolve through four hurricanes, events he likened to the trials of Job, and extolled President George W. Bush for "serving honorably during the most trying times since World War II."

Calling the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign "sleazy and ugly," Bush lauded the president's record on everything from the capture of Saddam Hussein to the economy and health care.

25. I may get flamed for this but I lived in Europe during Seniors
Administration. He was respected, liked, and in general was thought to be an expert in international relations. Now I didn't really know all the BS he was doing domestically at the time. BUT, don't forget he did manage to get a TRUE coalition to truly liberate a country (Kuwait) and we paid for approx. 10% of that war and suffered 1/10 the causalities. The fact that he built that coalition showed something about his foreign affairs capability. The guy has to be going through a major case of Alzheimer's or something or simply be senile not to understand that the international laws he fought hard to uphold (Senior WAS a believer in international law) is being torn to shreds by his son.

world while he was President. At least he didn't have a knack for creating more enemies than he could rid of. And I still bet he's got twice the IQ (although the same morals) of his son. I've always asked myself would I rather have an immoral idiot or an immoral genius. I think the comparison of the two administrations gives me my answer.

My favorite dig on poppy was his checking the watch in the debate and wondering what the bar code thingy was all about. They both were stupid when it came to even just common sense if you ask me.

Did either one ever really hold down a real job out of the government that they didn't fail at. Give me a break with all their rhetoric about free enterprise. Both them bastards would be starving if there were no government for them to milk off with their corporate buddies.

One really has to remember that poppy came before so many people were clued in about how they installed these kind of folks

Kuwaitis are free? Since when?
However - you are right that Poppy Chump - the father of Shrubby Chimp - did have internationalist instincts and was capable of forming alliances to do the work of the BFEE. Unlike the son who is an incompetent and miserable failure in every endeavor save for becoming a cult figure.(No small achievement if one were to be fair).

27. the son who hates the father
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 08:20 PM by Marianne
because he was the one who he was continually being frustrated by never being able to wreak revenge upon because he was so dependant upon him all of his life, has succeeded in destroying the entire Bush "dynasty" taking them all down with him. Look at what has been recorded. All of the outrages of this family have been brought to the forefront--the mother has shown her true evil colors (her beautiful mind should not be concerned with the flag draped caskets her beautiful son ignores)his wife has been shackled with the insipid,
Stepford and the lump frump meme and his two spawn have shown they are as dumb and as silly as a box of doorknobs, dressed up in fashion's highest. The history books will record the stupid son as the worst president ever to occupy the White House, by the Supreme court his daddy and his friends appointed. George has succeeded in making it the end for all the Bush family. He sullied the name and that is justice.

I doubt, seriously that his daddy has any influence at all anymore with the CIA and if he does, it will soon be gone.

Of course, all of them will hold on to their wealth via the Carlyle Group and other investments having to do with war profiteering. That is not just.
It is sad that he has caused the deaths of so many. He is indeed, a war criminal and murderer.

33. You're right on, Marianne
Poppy's duration with the CIA didn't even cover a year. Neither did most of his other appointments, either. He was known as an ambitious social butterfly, liking the parties rather than the work, at which he was mediocre, according to Kitty Kelley's book.

* hates his father so much for castigating him as a drunken slacker all those years. He hates Jeb because he was Mom's "Chosen One." Now it's payback time. Jeb will be finished, and once Poppy and Bar are gone, the whole dynasty will turn to dust.

57. James Baker's Double Life
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 10:22 AM by sattahipdeep
A Special Investigation
by NAOMI KLEIN
October 12, 2004
...
Until now, there has been no concrete evidence that Baker's loyalties are split,
or that his power as Special Presidential Envoy--an unpaid position--has been
used to benefit any of his corporate clients or employers. But according to
documents obtained by The Nation, that is precisely what has happened.
Carlyle has sought to secure an extraordinary $1 billion investment from the
Kuwaiti government, with Baker's influence as debt envoy being used as a
crucial lever.

....
But critics expressed grave concern about whether
Baker was an appropriate choice for such a crucial job. For instance, one of
Iraq's largest creditors is the government of Saudi Arabia. The Carlyle Group
does extensive business with the Saudi royal family, as does Baker's law firm,
Baker Botts (which is currently defending them in a $1 trillion lawsuit filed by the
families of September 11 victims). The New York Times determined that the
potential conflicts of interest were so great that on December 12 it published an
editorial calling on Baker to resign his posts at the Carlyle Group and Baker
Botts to preserve the integrity of the envoy position.
