The Jersey Journal of Jersey City has endorsed Sen. John Kerry for president, saying the Democrat would help the country make a fresh start. In an endorsement published in Saturday's editions, the paper said Kerry was "more flexible in his thinking" about the Middle East and more realistic about listening to America's allies.
"Under President Bush, we feel less safe as the country struggles with an unpopular war and as terrorists seem to run rampant in Iraq; there is a $7.4 trillion deficit where there once was a surplus, and the goodwill the rest of the world showered on our nation following the 9/11 attacks has disappeared with the rise of Bush's cowboy foreign policy," the paper said.
"Kerry has a better understanding of how the world thinks and works than the present administration, and with the senator there is a chance to mend international fences. It is enough to recommend a new start in the White House with Kerry."
To date, eight New Jersey daily newspapers have endorsed the Democratic candidate: The Jersey Journal, The Star-Ledger of Newark, The Record of Bergen County, The Times of Trenton, the Gloucester County Times of Woodbury, Courier-News of Bridgewater, The Daily Record of Parsippany and The Daily Journal of Vineland. The Asbury Park Press of Neptune and The Trentonian of Trenton have endorsed Bush. The Press of Atlantic City declined to endorse.
