Lieberman seeks

The Union Leader

Although Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean has gained momentum, Lieberman said he is the candidate who can win next November because he knows when to employ diplomacy and when to exert force.

“I don’t believe that the American people in the age of terrorism, with a world as unsettled and dangerous as ours is today, are going to elect a President who they don’t feel comfortable and confident will be a strong commander in chief of our military — (one) who will know when to use diplomacy . . . but also know when to use our power,” he said.

Lieberman noted he is the only one of the nine candidates who supported both the Gulf War in 1991 and “the war against Saddam.” ---

“I went to the Dean supporter and I said, ‘We’re going to be together when this all over, aren’t we?’ and he said, ‘You bet we are. Anybody but Bush,’” Lieberman recalled.

1. The people are a little smarter than you give 'em credit for, Joe.
The folks do not want a Bush lite. Thanks but no thanks.

2. 'The war against Saddam'
Well that's a new way of putting it. It certainly wasn't a war against Iraq, or a war against the Iraqi people, or a war to disarm Iraq, or a war against terrorism.

The implication is that Dean won't know when to use power. Spin away Joe.

Dean '04

4. Does Lieberman know when to use force?
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 11:20 AM by Jack Rabbit
War should be a course of last resort. In Iraq, all the rationales given for the war have been shown to be false. Indeed, the case for war was refuted well ahead of the invasion. The war was unnecessary. It would appear than Lieberman is the one who does not know when to use force.

This brings up a question about Lieberman rather than Dean. Lieberman bought the lies the Bushies were telling and repeated them; even here, he continues to justify the invasion with refuted arguments. The question is: Are Lieberman and the other so-called "Blair Democrats" too gullible to President?

5. I will vote for the Dem that gets the nomination, even this guy.
But I'm doing everything I can to make sure that we have Dennis Kucinich as our next president.

I'm an independent voter from a liberal Democratic family that is doing the same.

DK is the future. We need a Department of Peace that would use our professional military to defend US-not expansion of militarism brought on by BFEE.

I encourage everyone to get the facts and join US.

10. The un-Dean
It appears that Lieberman's strategy will be to attack "Deanism." He'll seek to rescue his faltering candidacy by trashing Dean. It won't work, but it will hurt Dean should he become the nominee.

13. hah
I'm from Connecticut and I'll never vote for him for President. I don't even like him being a Senator, it's only mildly better than having a Republican.

15. Is Joe REALLY this cluless?
"Lieberman noted he is the only one of the nine candidates who supported both the Gulf War in 1991 and 'the war against Saddam'..."

As W.C. Fields would have said, "I wouldn't BRAG about that if I were You..."

Oh, Oil War I and Oil War II.....Ho'w Joe feel about us getting involved in Africa? I read today that the people aren't the only thing there that is black....
