~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Here's more on the CENTRAL BAGHDAD explosion today: Baghdad Bombs Kill 3 Iraqis, One Estonian Soldier (Update2))
Oct. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Three Iraqi civilians and an Estonian soldier were killed by two blasts in Baghdad, the U.S. military said in e-mailed statements from the Iraqi capital. The attacks come two days after 49 Iraqi Army recruits were massacred north of the capital.
The Iraqis died when a car bomb exploded at 8 a.m. in central Baghdad, also injuring six civilians and two soldiers from the U.S.-led multinational forces, the military said. A coalition soldier was killed and five others wounded when a roadside bomb detonated at 11:15 a.m. in western Baghdad, the U.S. said.
The Iraqi army recruits were killed near Baqubah as they returned to southern Iraq from a training course, Agence France- Presse said. A group led by the wanted Jordanian Abu Musab al- Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the killings in a statement posted on the internet.
The Iraqi capital has been the scene of numerous blasts targeting the U.S. military, Iraq's security forces and foreign nationals. The Iraq war and subsequent insurgency there are issues in the Nov. 2 U.S. elections, and U.S. President George W. Bush and interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi have said they plan to regain control of rebel-held areas of Iraq before that country's elections slated for January.
