Lake Worth man accused of 'political attack' on girlfriend

Posted October 27 2004, 1:45 PM EDT

WEST PALM BEACH – An 18-year-old Marine recruit remained in jail on Wednesday, charged with threatening to stab his girlfriend over her choice for president, news partner NewsChannel 5 reported in its noon broadcast.

The enlistee, Steven Scott Soper, of Lake Worth, became enraged Tuesday night when his 18-year-old girlfriend said she was leaving him -- and voting for John Kerry for president.
Soper, who will enter the Marines as soon as he passes the GED test, solidly supports Bush. He allegedly told girlfriend Stacey Silheira, "You'll never live to see the election."

Palm Beach Sheriff's Office deputies called to the home in Lake Worth said they had to use a Taser – an electronic stun gun – to subdue Soper. They described Soper as enraged and said he was holding Silheira captive. He was armed with a screwdriver and threatening to stab her in the neck, they said. When Silheira eventually broke free a deputy fired the Taser, shocking him into submission.

If he is convicted of attempted murder or aggravated assault he will not be allowed in the Marines

30. Well, it doesn't matter if he passes the GED test, or not, he's not going
to the Marines, now.

I wonder if he belongs to "Psychos for Bush?"

4. Well. . .
Sounds like the voting thing was actually the secondary issue, and probably barely relevant. The first was that she was leaving him. This is the usual case of control freak abuser going apeshit when his victim doesn't play the game. Here his "reason" was that she was voting for Bush; for some women, it's because they were out at the grocery store too long. Or spoke to another man on the street.

Although he probably is going to be out already by the time of the election.

Combine that story with the one about Kathleen Harris's attacker - another dumb fuck, no matter whose side he's on - and I gotta wonder if "battleground states" is becoming waaaaay too literal a term.

Battleground voters: when you go to the polls to stand in those long lines, bring food, water - and mace.

edit: typo

21. He's crazy, and I think he is delusional, too
Soper, who will enter the Marines as soon as he passes the GED test, solidly supports Bush.

This is a bullshit statement on THREE levels. First, in order to prepare his application for enlistment, he has to HAVE a GED in hand. Otherwise, they won't even start working up the 1066 form.

SECOND, he has to take and pass the ASVAB test. He needs his GED for that, too, unless he took it in high school, and since he's going for a GED, I suggest that is UNLIKELY.

THIRD, without the GED, he will not be scheduled for a physical at the MEPS. You have to fulfill all your mental quals first.

This clown WANTS to be a Marine. That does not MAKE him a Marine. If I were the Marine recruiter, I'd rip this paper a new one.

How dare the nitwit besmirch that branch of service--and I've got some more bad news for him. Domestic assault is a NONWAIVERABLE OFFENSE. Domestic violence ensures that you can't carry a weapon in the military, and in the USMC, everyone has to be weapon-qualed.

The closest he will ever get to being a Marine is maybe emptying honeywagons at the local Marine-ah. What a dork!

37. this guy spat in her face and bit her cheek! (updated story)
Lots of new details at http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/nation/10031005.htm?1c

It seems that he couldn't handle it when he learned that his girlfriend and her entire family are Kerry-supporting Democrats, complete with lawn signs.

During his assault on his (ex)girlfriend, this lunatic shoved a Marine Corps videotape in her face, held a screwdriver to her throat and threatened to kill her, and he spat in her face and bit her cheek!

Let's keep this kicked!

Mary
