Chicago Sun-Times Endorses Sen. John Kerry For President
No link available yet. I am reading the print version of tomorrows paper. Here is an excerpt:

Time to shift command to Kerry

The Chicago Sun-Times endorses Sen. John Kerry for president. This represents a change in outlook for us. Four years ago, this newspaper endorsed George W. Bush.

more when a link becomes available.

3. That's the paper that runs Roger Ebert's columns,right?
and Roepers as well. One would think that they would be more progressive. Thank heavens Chicago has one paper that is not a determined "sell-out."

I know the Trib has a good "news" rep, but geez, I can't read the Rocky Mtn News here in Denver because it has such a conservative slant. If the Denver Post doesn't come out for Kerry, I'm sunk.

I would have never guessed on either of these recommendations. If it weren't for the better format, I'd dump the Tribune.

owner of my beloved Cubbies, is one of the most reactionary RW papers in the country. It's soooooo hard being a Cubs fan!
My brother in law lives in Boston and is a huge Red Sox fan. Go Red Sox and go JFK!!!

I just didn't think the Tribune would be stupid enough to continue that track record with this moron and how poorly things are going.

39. That the right wing warms to Kerry should tell us something.
Reading the editorial, I was rather depressed. The right wing editorial board clearly wants to transpose onto Kerry the fantasies it hoped for Bush to fulfill.

In other words, they think they've found a pretty good Republican in Kerry.

20. link about the editorial--
October 23, 2004 — Though President Bush initially faced the war on terrorism head-on, he has lead the country on a course that "feels wrong," and Sen. John Kerry's leadership could give the United States a fresh start, the Chicago Sun-Times said in its Sunday editions.

The newspaper endorsed Kerry and applauded his leadership style, saying he is not a weakling and his moderate views would close the rifts Bush has intensified.

"The course America is on today feels wrong -- our attempts to defend ourselves have somehow drawn the contempt of the world, and we think much of that is due more to style than to substance -- not to what we've done, but how we've done it," the endorsement said.

I have yet to read it...is it a "cloaked endorsement"? I.E. a veiled excuse to appear non-partisan while attacking Kerry's record?

29. Time to Shift Command to Kerry
Time to Shift Command to Kerry

....

Kerry offers a different leadership style that would give us a new start internationally -- an awareness of the world outside our borders, an acknowledgment that the United States is a world leader, not a rogue state, and as such we have responsibilities to treat those who we would count as friends in a certain manner. Bush has mocked this as kowtowing to France. We see it as diplomacy.

At home, Kerry's moderate view on a range of hot-button social issues -- abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research -- would help close the rifts that Bush, in playing to the far right wing of the Republican Party, has accentuated. Kerry would also repair the harm done by Bush's big tax break to the wealthy, a costly misstep in a time of war.

We also like how Kerry thinks -- his thirst for information, his ability to judge situations on their merits. Yes, he sometimes changes his mind, but what the Republicans tar as waffling strikes us as flexibility. We want leaders to stay the course only when the course is a good one.

Perhaps that is the ultimate reason for endorsing John Kerry. The course America is on today feels wrong -- our attempts to defend ourselves have somehow drawn the contempt of the world, and we think much of that is due more to style than to substance -- not to what we've done, but how we've done it. Kerry is no weakling. He fought for his country in Vietnam, and no amount of fault-finding over his medals can undo that. He served for 19 years in the Senate, where he faced problems head-on -- though Vietnam was a vulnerable issue for him, because of his later opposition to the war, he took on the question of whether U.S. prisoners were still there and headed the government's effort to get at the truth....

36. Here's how Kerry stacks up --
Kerry now leads Bush 112-69 in endorsements in E&P's exclusive tally, and by about 14.4 million to 8.6 million in the circulation of backing papers.
