Deptford woman, 89, heads to jail: Quaker was arrested at anti-war protest
Yep, this is BUSHWORLD alright!

Lillian Willoughby, a Deptford Quaker who will turn 90 in January, went to jail Wednesday to protest the war in Iraq.

Shortly before noon, Willoughby rose from her wheelchair, gave her husband of 64 years, George, a hug and a kiss, and disappeared into the federal detention center at Seventh and Arch streets here.

Reporting with her were five other peace activists, including a young couple from Camden, Cassie Haw, 22, and her husband, Chris, 23. All were convicted of obstructing the entrance to the federal building in Philadelphia on March 20, 2003, the day the United States invaded Iraq.

1. Quakers are wonderful people
Her example of personal sacrifice for the good of all is to be admired. Wish it were that I had her courage.

5. Hubby's grandfather (Quaker) had a stop on the Underground Railroad
on his farm in Indiana.

The Quakers in his part of the country literally put their lives on the line to help slaves make it to freedom.

My husband comes from people who are the salt of the earth.

I cannot tell you how much respect I have for these Friends, they really do believe in the divinity of us all and therefore, we are truly equal in the sight of God. They also believe it inherent in them to do whatever they must to preserve the equality of their fellow man(that includes NOT killing him).

They deserve our admiration.
