Powell says US on the 'march' to refer Iran to UN Security Council
TOKYO (AFP) - The United States has seen no sign Iran will comply with international demands on its suspect nuclear program and will push next month for the matter to be sent to the UN Security Council unless Tehran reverses its course, US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said.

Powell said Washington believed it could get support from the International Atomic Energy Agency to refer Iran to the Security Council in the event it fails to comply with its IAEA obligations and commitments to European nations.

The IAEA's governing board last met in September and called on Iran by its November 25 meeting to halt uranium enrichment activities that could be used to produce nuclear weapons and disprove fully US accusations that it is secretly developing such arms.

"I think everybody left the September meeting believing that if there was not a significant response, and a very clear significant response that met all of the IAEA requirements and was totally consistent with the agreement they had with the EU, that there should be a referral in November," Powell said.

So if they don't comply on Nov. 25, what are the odds of the US using a preemptive strike even if * loses????

2. If Bush loses? Count on a US strike against Iran nuke sites
What an absolutely perfect mess to leave behind for Kerry to try and fix. A US strike against Iranian sites would give Iran all the legal justification it needs to openly move against our troops in Iraq.

Only a lunatic would do something like that, right?

5. I think you will be surprised when Iran hits us hard
Expect them to use every weapon at their disposal.
I think Russia might love to supply them with recon and
God knows what else. Putin would love to see bush boiled
in the squat.

Over and above that, think about this:
how are we going to react when our soldiers in
Iraq are swimming in a soup of new, highly motivated recruits
- with REAL weapons.
You can bet they have their plans, as well.
Only a fool or a madman expects the adversary
to fold his cards on the first blow.

I guess Israel will be the first to find out if
Iran has nuclear warheads. O well.

7. If we strike Iran, the US economy is "toast"
$100+ a barrel oil

MAJOR supply disruptions

not to mention Iran would flood Iraq an Afghanistan with mujahadeen.

and Iranian Republican Guard attacks against US naval forces in the Persian Gulf.

Operation Persian Thunder = Apocalypse Bush/Sharon

4. I take it as a given that the U.S. will bypass the U.N. and attack another
country again.

What I wonder is whether this situation would set up precedence for either the U.N. or other countries to declare war against this country for its military aggression. I mean, if Serbia was held in account of crimes against humanity, so can we (so to speak). Or maybe the U.N. would declare economic sanctions against this country like it did for Iraq.

I don't believe the U.S. is going to be given another free "gimme".
