Laura Bush Denies Husband Relies on Instinct
Laura Bush Denies Husband Relies on Instinct

By Caren Bohan

NASHUA, N.H. (Reuters) - First Lady Laura Bush said on Thursday that her husband has long consultations with advisers before making decisions, disputing a recent report that he sometimes relies primarily on gut instincts.

The president "talks at great length" with advisers before arriving at a conclusion, Mrs. Bush said, disagreeing with a recent New York Times article's portrayal of her husband, although she allowed that instincts were part of the process.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20041022/pl_nm/campaign_laura_dc_4

For some perspective, here's from the description for Bob Woodward's book "bush at War":

Based on interviews with more than a hundred sources and four hours of exclusive interviews with the president, Bush at War reveals Bush's sweeping, almost grandiose, vision for remaking the world. "I'm not a textbook player, I'm a gut player," the president said.

Or??????

Nah, she's busting his chops. That's twice now. First she won't go along with the THK smear, now she calls him on his macho boasting. He's really a nervous nellie who does nothing without his advisors.

Ha! I'm beginning to like Laura.

14. She probably just wants to go home
...put her feet up, grab a smoke, a glass of bourbon, and read a good book. Who could blame her? She's probably sick of the DC life, and just wants to get the hell out of there. Of course, she has to be subtle about it, otherwise people would blame her for the loss.

24. Another reason to like Laura:
Remember, she gave birth to daughters who are EXTREMELY unlikely ever to pursue public office. = one branch of this crime family that will not persist in screwing the public (after the chimp goes home). Now, about the other dozen or howevermany hydra heads there are on the b*shit beast...

28. Do they really even interview her on such matters?
I mean, why bother? That's like interviewing a convicted prisoner in jail to get "their take" on whether they are guilty or innocent. Of course she's going to simply dispute anything that might portray her husband in a negative light, whether she's lying through her teeth or not.

Maybe I'm just becoming a cynic. I probably shouldn't expect the news to rely on a non-spouse as a source of objective analysis about the president's fatal decision making policies 12 days before the election. It's hard work being a reporter.

32. That "he talks to advisors" is even news
is such pathetic commentary in itself.

It's like his "I got my budget man" or "the CIA chief talks to me. He comes to see me, every morning."

I talk to advisors. We make decisions. That's how presidentin's done. It's hard work.

I really don't think he views Condi as more important or better informed than the "higher father". It is not instinct per se, it is his misguided sense of "divine inspiration".

Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 07:03 AM by Laelth
Seriously, Laura's approval ratings are the highest of any person in the administration. The R's sick her only on the issues about which they feel the most vulnerable. She's the only one who could refute the claim that Shrub relies on divine inspiration for his decision-making processes. Nobody else they have would be credible.

I've said it before, many times, but Ron Suskind did us great good.

If you haven't read his New York Times Magazine article, "Beyond a Doubt," then you should do so. If you don't want to give NYT Mag. your e-mail address, the text of the article can be found HERE. Suskind's essay is the second entry in that thread.
