The Associated Press reported that Wal-Mart decided to take this action because Stewart's book contains naked bodies with the superimposed heads of Supreme Court justices.
Sharon Weber and Karen Burk, Wal-Mart (WMT: news, chart, profile) spokeswomen, were unavailable immediately to comment on the report, which also appeared Thursday afternoon on CNN.
Stewart is the host of "The Daily Show," a popular nightly comedy program that is shown on Viacom's Comedy Central cable channel (VIAB: news, chart, profile). (Viacom is also a significant investor in MarketWatch Inc., the publisher of this report).
The show has gained a solid reputation for its topical humor and has commanded Madison Avenue's attention because of Stewart's ability to attract a solid core of affluent young viewers every night.
